I like reading resurrected discussions.

The 1916 nickel date thread just popped up. I've learned the hard way to make sure a thread is new before posting. I wish more would pop up for those of use too lazy to search - just post an old thread alert.

I use the forum keyword search feature to find interesting dated posts, often. Peace Roy

There is NO rule against posting to an old thread. https://forums.collectors.com/discussion/1009079/pcgs-forum-rules-and-guidelines-updated-5-8-2025#latest
I would suggest not letting curmudgeons bother you about such things. Some folks think they own the sandbox.
Treating old threads like a taboo makes no sense to me, unless the thread makes no meaningful contribution to community knowledge.

All well and good for a particular subject, but in the case that inspired this discussion, I would have no reason to look up the date size of a 1916 nickel. There must be millions interesting things in the CU archives that you all know about and I wish I did too!
Where is the line in the sand as to when an “old thread alert” is warranted?
Nothing is as expensive as free money.
There is none and there should not be one. I suspect beginners join this place every week. I also suspect that when a really significant dead discussion is resurrected it may turn up in "Best of."
Old threads are a wealth of knowledge and many I've never seen before.
I enjoy it when they re-surface.
It's also bitter-sweet to see ancient monikers from those of whom have either moved on or passed on.
I only need to check first to make sure that I didn't post onto them years prior.
Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

Interesting how that request for old discussions keeps coming up...well, here you go!
Dear Mr T,
It would seem to me that any member who is actually interested in numismatics and the acquisition of knowledge rather than trolling others would make those requests. IN FACT, this this very afternoon, after reading about the date change to 1916 5c, I thought about starting a new discussion with the title: PLEASE RESURRECT YOUR FAVORITE OLD DISCUSSION!
LOL, it looks like I already did in January. Guess we both have ONE TRACK MINDS. Fortunately, mine is focused on coins.
PS Thanks for the links as I wished to read more from this banned member I have been accused of being by you and @Catbait. One of the other boy detectives accused me of being some other banned member so I must be posting like two different ex-members. Carryon with your witch hunt and be thankful I'm not a troll who would start posting more discussions started by maried2 coins and other banned members.
Unfortunately, I'm unable to open any of the links of the banned member. That must mean that anything a banned member has posted cannot be seen because when I click on Mr.T's icon I can read all his posts and discussions if I wanted to.
Seeing the old threads, particularly some of those from around 2005 or so, make me wish I was born a generation or two sooner.

I don't think old threads bother many here as long as it's kept within reason. Flooding the forum with old threads is probably not a good idea. Those starting new threads will probably not be happy.
That means that they had set their profile to "private". A notive (in small print) on the page that comes up should tell you that.
In regard to the premise of this thread, you can always read old threads without resurrecting them.
One problem with very old threads is that many links, including photos hosted elsewhere, are broken or expired.
Another problem is that there will likely be a number of members who are since banned or worse. It would not be possible to continue a conversation with those thread contributors.
The problem for me is I like to know as much as possible about anything I'm interested in. I have lots of interests. There is more to life than coins so that's why I don't post here every day. Anyway, as a relatively new member, I would not know all the subjects I would like to look up and read about. It would be so neat if the builders of a chat forum would have a subject index where topic are listed like a book. You are also right about the images that are no longer visible. I guess all of this would take up too much space on a site. Anyway, I'm thankful for the ability to search the history when I figure out what to look up.
When I resurrect an older thread, it is because I was thinking of starting a new thread. When a thread has already been started very similar to what I was going to start, it seems better to add to knowledge already given in a previous thread than to start fresh. Most topics ARE NOT date limited.
Yes, and I've learned to look at the date a discussion was started when I see something on the first page of the forum I want to read! Keep up the good work.
So you're not married to coins then.

I don't mind old threads being resurrected and the discussion continuing, it has freaked me out though when you see an old friends name pop up and think dang.. or like Keets - he got his ban lifted.
