GTG: 1935 PCGS Peace Dollar

Thought this could be an interested GTG. Both are PCGS coins, freshly back from a PCGS regrade in which the grades remained the same. I'm very happy with the quality of the TVs. There's been a change in the quality of TVs as far as file size. These are 15MB+ for each obv & reverse photo with the combined coming in over 25MB (used to be 13-14MB). Right-click, open in new tab for full size.

65+ for #1 w/ more original frost & an excellent strike. Despite a few notable contact marks it has strong eye appeal. 66 wouldn't shock me.
66+ for #2 w/mark-free surfaces and an expert dip. Strike is not quite as good as #1 but still very good plus nicely lustrous surfaces.
These are my amateur observations as I am far from a Peace Dollar expert.
Top: MS-65 (Several Small Scratches and Contact Marks - Nothing too Distracting)
Bottom: MS-64 (Obv Contact Mark in Liberty’s Hair - Prime Focal Area)
(Note: I may be grading these 2 beautiful coins up to a grading point too conservatively…)

...the top one has hits on the neck, cheek, and reverse field that should keep it out of gem
...both looks like nice coins and the pictures do appear to be much better than what was previously seen on here
Based on the images, the second looks significantly better than the first. I am wondering how these two look in hand in contrast to the TrueViews. I am not being critical of the TrueViews. If the second coin looks that good in hand, I think 66 is quite possible given the clean cheek, the attractive fields and overall look. I like the first coin too but it has enough distractions to warrant a 65… unless the surfaces and luster are exceptional in hand. I see 64 for 1 and 66 for 2.

Edited: first blush gtg was 64 and 65 but looking more carefully… these coins are better….I go with 65 and 66.

---- RESULTS
Thanks for the responses guys! I knew this would be tricky.

I weighted the +'s with a 0.5. ie MS64+ = 64.5

Coin A Median Guess: 64
Coin A Average Guess: 64.3
Coin A Actual: MS65
Coin B Median Guess: 65.5
Coin B Average Guess: 65.5
Coin B Actual: MS64
@Stuart is the winner here.
I would have probably also graded it MS65, MS64. I think these results tell me that Coin B should be resubmitted again. x612 has a lot of chatter in the hair and a few marks on the neck but is pretty pristine otherwise.
x613 has a lot more marks in focal areas but none very severe but a very strong strike.
Would appreciate thoughts on the results now that we know...

I don’t understand > @ProofCollection said:
The results tell me that coin A should resubmitted again (for a downgrade).

Based on the cert numbers, looks as if coin #2 was submitted before coin #1 and graded first.
As for my extended commentary… Coins 1 and 2 are entered as Exhibits A and B to support my longstanding argument that there is a subjective component inherent in the nature of grading.
I did not see the coins in hand and on the forum, we were all in that same boat. But grading from an image is simply not the same as seeing the coin in hand… especially at the GEM level. Some may have the talent to interpret images better than others.

What don't you understand? I don't want a downgrade. But yeah, it seems overgraded.
But if many think coin B is 65-worthy (including you), it's probably worth another shot...
No, sorry, I can't get AI to generate one of those.

I understood just fine and was merely commenting on the grading of the coin. Sorry for not having included one or more 😉😉’s

It would be nice to find MS64 Peace dollars that look like coin #2.
Another option is to submit it to CAC for a gold sticker.
I like that idea. I think I will try that...

Hmmm. My eyeballs choose the opposite.

However, the strike on coin A is superior to coin B. That's what the graders were looking at. IMHO.
Nice coins!

1 probably has booming luster and thick original skin which can be hard to see in images.. (For some reason the letters here are big)
Fascinating. Gotta love the variations in grading.
I think the top ones base grade is higher than coin two due to strike.
Peace dollars always seemed to me to be graded on luster then strike and then contact marks

I loved the 2nd coin.
What a screaming 64 !
To me, when combined with the cleaner surfaces, both the strike and luster on the second coin look sufficient to grade it at least a point higher than the first one.

I agree the other is a gem
