Ticket Prices CRASH in WNBA After Caitlin Clark Injury By as Much as 300 Percent per Ticket
Over the weekend the Indiana Fever announced that WNBA basketball sensation Caitlin Clark will be out for AT LEAST two weeks with an injured quad.
Clark is the most popular women’s athlete in the world and is the fourth most popular active sports figure men or women.

Well at least it's no longer debatable that Caitlin is truly the only major draw in the WNBA.
The rest of the WNBA players are almost like window dressing.
Angel Reese should now realize that she is not the face of the WNBA and shut her mouth
i've never seen Caitlin Clark dribble the ball one time
it's a tree in a forest situation
and i'm not knocking anyone who likes her and/or the WNBA, there's just zero appeal to me
you'll never be able to outrun a bad diet
I am not surprised at all. WNBA is a one trick pony. the CC show. That girl should be getting multiple $MM/per year. she is carrying the league.
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
Reese is legitimately just a bad basketball player that happens to be taller than pretty much everyone. She cant dribble, she cant shoot, she cant make layups, she has the worst shooting percentage in history inside of 5 feet, the vast majority of her rebounds are from her own missed layups but other than that shes pretty good
Clarke is their only actual draw for attention and the league is too stupid to promote her and just tries to tear her down and supports the jealous players instead
if i was to watch a Thunder game with Shai-Gilgeous Alexander doing his thing, then immediately turn around and catch a Fever game with Clark, it would feel like someone flipped the slo-mo switch and i personally just can't process that
you'll never be able to outrun a bad diet
For the life of me, I still can't figure out some of these other player's negative attitudes towards Caitlin. All Caitlin has done is greatly increase interest in the WNBA, which in various ways makes all of them better off, especially when it comes to salaries, etc.
Yet their obvious jealousy of Caitlin overwhelms any form of sensible reasoning they may possess. The old saying is: cut off your nose to spite your face.
When these jealous players notice all those empty seats in the stands, of fans who didn't attend the game because Caitlin wasn't scheduled to play, maybe then they will smarten up their attitude towards Caitlin. But then again, maybe not.
Its not really something that can be discussed on the forum but its not to hard to figure out from the constant comments and accusations of racism aside from the jealously.
The biggest culprits will just keep up pretending to be victims for attention and ultimately they dont really care how many fans are there or not, the NBA will just subsidize their losses. Now if the NBA stopped carrying the league and it had to actually turn a profit for the first time ever to stay around then they might start caring but as of now they know it doesnt matter someone else will cover the money the league loses
Slippery bandwagon. Watch your step.
.
I have watched men's basketball since the 1960's (having played the game from the late 1960's until the early 1990's in middle school, high school, college and recreationally).
While watching men's hoops I saw the game in the USA shift from being played at college and pro levels from mostly white USA born players (college) and about equally white and black (pro) USA born players to predominantly black USA born players.
For multiple reasons black USA born players filled the majority of roster spots (deservedly so). As this transition took place I do not recall a large dissatisfaction with the change to mostly black USA born players (though in the 1970's and the early 1980's pro basketball suffered in popularity due to various factors, including drug use by players and some of the viewing audience not liking the large number of black players on team rosters).
The NBA-ABA merger in 1976 (with Dr. J and other ABA stars joining the NBA) helped the NBA by infusing talented ABA All Star players and adding ABA fans to the NBA fan base. However this alone did not fix league problems.
When Magic Johnson and Larry Bird played for the 1979 NCAA title and thereafter entered the NBA, that rivalry (Magic v. Bird and the Lakers vs. the Celtics) resulted in a surge of popularity for the NBA; which was further cemented when MJ joined the league in the 1984-1985 season.
The ethnic make up of NBA rosters has for decades not been of concern to the USA based viewing public (in person an on TV). The fact that most rosters in the NBA and major college programs had been mostly filed by black USA born players simply has not been a sore spot.
As time has passed the men's game has grown in popularity on a global scale. As a result players born outside of the USA have developed the skills, talents and abilities to earn roster spots on college teams and NBA teams. Players born on every continent except Antarctica have played and do play in the NBA, many of which are not black and many of which are of All Star and MVP caliber. NBA rosters today are no longer predominantly black USA born players. That reality does not appear to be a problem with the players or the game.
My sense of things is that men's basketball has a mindset where the color of one's skin and/or ones ethnic background simply do not matter. The thing that does matter is:
If the person can play ball, then other players will accept him into the fraternity (even if the person is a green alien that has only one arm). If the person can not play, then he is not accepted into the fraternity.
This mindset is one that is admirable. It should be applied across all areas of human endeavor.
With the above said, I turn to the WNBA.
Caitlin Clark is a baller who can play (much better than many of her peers).
It appears that CC does not self promote and does not seek the spotlight.
She is promoted and in the spotlight because she is a baller who can play. Her presence in the WNBA has lifted the entire league and increased interest in the product.
It seems that even though CC is a baller and can play, she has not been accepted by her peers (and possibly has not been accepted by persons who are connected to the management and ownership of WNBA franchises).
Is this non acceptance because she is white? Is it because she is straight?
If yes, what is up with that!!!!?
Why can't CC be accepted into the fraternity (or is it sorority) since she is a baller? Is it due to the difference in how females and males view things and operate? I have no clue but hope that the resistance to CC will crumble.
If CC is ostracized, marginalized and forced out of the WNBA that will be something the WNBA will not be able to easily recover from.
If something similar happened to an NBA star (i.e. LeBron James) because of something about the NBA Star that has nothing to do with basketball how would that go over with the viewing public?
Mike Drop!!!!!
Just a question. It's stated that the NBA is carrying the WNBA. Is it upper mgt./owners paying the freight, making the decisions or are the players involved in the payments/decision making of the WNBA policies.
Excellent post. Well stated. 👍
I've heard that, but haven't really read anything about it or checked into it either way. However I'm a business guy, and this I do know. Whoever is in charge of the WNBA, I'm sure they realize it's obviously better to have more fans than less. Caitlin Clark draws more fans - that is a fact.
Let's put it this way with a hypothetical. If I'm in charge of the league, I'd have a private sit down with the primary haters of Caitlin, and clearly explain to them that you'd better start shaping up and treat her with the respect she deserves as a fellow league player, or you will be shipping out, and good luck playing in the Russian basketball league or whatever.
Exactly how would a ticket price drop by 300%?
I think it's a typo from the article, I'm thinking it's a 300% drop in overall. ticket sales?
The article headline reads 70%, and an $86 ticket presumably dipped to $25. The overblown hype in the first post resembles much of the same figurative BS we see being spewed by other prominent figures in our current culture. Just more hot air.

Ticket Prices CRASH in WNBA After Caitlin Clark Injury By as Much as 70 Percent per Ticket
Looks like they corrected the headline.
Frankly too many of today's articles in the media, on any subject, sometimes seem like they are written by community college dropouts. LOL
Just a quick side note. I'm not sure if ticket flipping has ever been discussed here? Flipping sports tickets is a huge business, filled with possible high risk reward situations.
Those who bought tickets in advance on these games in which Caitlin was scheduled to play, hoping to flip them on StubHub, SeatGeek, etc, for a nice fat buck, unfortunately found out about the "high risk" downside involved as they obviously took a bath on it. Frankly, I doubt if these tickets even sold for $25. Some, perhaps many probably went unsold.
I would rather watch squirrels chase each other than watch the WNBA.
I do not drink but if I did that would be the only way I would watch a WNBA game so drunk I would be unable to change the channel and forced to watch it. I would close my eyes and wish for death to come get me to end the torture that is the WNBA!!!
That's not mathematically possible.
I don't know what to tell ya, I'm not a math guy

Social Media Invented Hilarious New WNBA Stat Just For Angel Reese
Grabbing her own rebounds after missed layups are known as 'mebounds'
Social media users have taken notice of Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese, specifically her propensity to miss layups and grab her own rebounds, and created a new WNBA statistic just for her.
That is hilarious 😂😂😂
Best stat too and some people are finally calling her out. Shes only relevant because shes so bad and picks controversial fights with stars. Just watch any game where she plays against players that are actually good and close to if not her size and shell miss like 5 shots in a row from 3 feet and get 4 rebounds
The thing about Angel. Reese that bothers me is how much of a hater she is on Clark and is trying to act like she is the voice of the WNBA and talking like they should get NBA money.
I think Reese is attractive but ruins it as soon as she opens her mouth, just play ball and stop trying to take center stage by crapping on Clark who is clearly better.
Thats the thing about her though, if she just played ball shes bottom half of the league with inflated rebound stats. She has to be controversial and attack Caitlin and all the other nonsense to be relevant
Agreed and that's what I'm saying, she just doesn't need to be so relevant, it's her over doing it trying to be.
She has sponsors and she is in the league, be satisfied with that rather than making a fool of yourself
I agree. I wont blame her for what shes doing but the sponsors are more at fault for encouraging it
One is a legit star and the other is smart enough to make social media stuff because shes just not very good at actually playing
Just like the real world. Seen this happen in the workplace too many times.
I find CC incredibly entertaining to watch. Especially her passing. Of course the speed of the game is a little different, but I find watching her much more entertaining overall than the NBA.
My biggest problem with the WNBA is that other than a few high profile stars, the average skill level in the league is surprisingly low. No matter how entertaining Caitlin Clark is, it's still a bit of a bummer watching missed layups, terrible ball handling, etc.
Coco Gauff is the most popular female athlete in the World, and the highest earning female athlete, not Clark. And her popularity just went up another several million notches after winning the French Open today.

Let's Check In On WNBA Ticket Prices Without Caitlin Clark, Shall We?
Clark may be in street clothes this evening, but Angel "People Watch Me, Too" Reese's talents will be on full display, pulling down all the "mebounds" you can fathom.
I know Caitlin Clark is out, but people watch the WNBA for Angel Reese too. That’s why tickets for tonight’s Fever @ Sky game are priced through the roof at $3 each.
No one has had more of an impact for females on the revenue and attention than Clark for current players
More people in the US have heard of Caitlin Clark, far more than whoever Coco Gauff is
Maybe in Europe Gauff is more popular but not in the US, it's not even remotely debatable to think otherwise

LOL on Gauff
CC might be popular as a female athlete but she doesn’t even register on the female scale, more closely resembles a teenaged boy. That probably explains why she’s good at BB.
"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety," --- Benjamin Franklin
I try to find her attractive but struggle with it lol
When I watch basketball I’m not looking to be attracted to the players, male or female. I find Caitlin to be appealing as a person, but primarily as a player.
When I watch male sports I'm looking to enjoy the game
When I watch any female sport I'm looking to enjoy the game and check the girls out as well.
I don't care too much about what their personal lives entail. as long as they are not engaging in criminal behavior I couldn't care less
"check the girls out as well"
That really is a crude, sexist remark.
and I completely agree with it. 😆
I would recommend SEC softball for that lol
OK. I think we're all pretty clear that if you're looking for hot babes there are plenty of places to find them, and a WNBA game is pretty low on the list. But you're certainly free to check out whoever you wish.
Ticket prices never crash for women's beach volleyball. You horndoggies might wanna check it out.

I just wanted to add that I am NOT a big fan of Coco because she is a racist.
Terry Bradshaw was AMAZING!!
Ohio State Buckeyes - National Champions
I didn't doubt you that she was the highest paid, I make more than WNBA players lol
I was saying Clark is more well known, or Popular is all
I don't watch WNBA, let alone to check those woman out.
I was just giving you my point of view on the matter since you gave me yours
Popularity = more endorsements. Most of Gauff's earnings come from endoresments.

Just saw the State Farm Insurance commercial with Clark in it.
