1943 Steel 'Spitting Lincoln' wheat penny

Okay, I have named it the 'spitting Lincoln' which appears to me to be a raised planchet error or die chip. I need some experts and novice collectors to take a guess at why the defect exists. There appears to be some of the 'spit' on Lincolns chin and cheek as well. https://youtu.be/cdLhXrPvuz0

Looks more like a scratch in the video

Never heard of a raised planchet error and it is not a die chip.
Maybe a scratch or a defect in the zinc coating.

I though it was a scratch as well until it appeared to be raised. Could a scratch leave it raised?

Yes. Consider a plowed field. But it's sometimes deceptive as to whether it is raised or recessed. Use directional lighting. In the video, with the light from the bottom (?), the shadows make it appear recessed to me.

It looks raised (on the coin) to me, similar to the thick line on the 1838 V-6a half dime below.

If it is actually raised, perhaps a die gouge. Does not look like it affects the higher parts of Lincoln's lips, which would be consistent with a die gouge.

I was doing a little spit balling myself trying to describe the error. :D

you may be correct about the feature missing his lips. I tried to take a better image to show how it jumps over the lower lip and continues leftward on his cheek. I do think it's a raised feature however.

On the new images I posted below the center appears lower in spots but it's not consistent. Kinda like your 'plowed field' analogy but I can't say with certainty the lowest area in the spit is below the surface of the coin but it is lower than the raised 'spit' feature. I hope that makes sense. lol
