You don't often see a 1949 Franklin with color like this so I had to add it to my collection when I saw it.

Now let's try a guess the grade. I have added the GC photo and the PCGS Trueview for your perusal.

65 no FBL if I am judging the pictures correctly the very nice toning makes it hard to see the bell lines completely, but it looks to me like there are a couple of gaps.

@U1chicago - could you post your own photo of the obverse? Based on the Trueview and the GC photo, 63FBL is very surprising. (Not the FBL which seems clear)

@U1chicago - thanks for posting this. Maybe with the hits under the eye and a small arc of hits in the cheek, which are a bit more apparent in your photo than in the Trueview, I can almost fathom a 63. But, it’s a fabulous coin!

Nice Frankie!! Great color and under-graded, IMHO.

Is it normal for a coin like this to be holdered with reverse facing forward? Gotta admit I haven't seen many holdered this way.

They'll do it by request, especially when there's a compelling reason, like the coin above.

PCGS honored my request to have Lincoln face-up for a '23 "V" coin submission, since that's where all of the action is.
For whatever reason, or hosts will default the "Shield" to be face-up for all shield cents submitted, which makes no 'cents' to me whatsoever. I digress.

As @Rc5280 mentioned, one can request the coin to be holdered reverse facing forward on the submission form. I have done it previously for both PCGS and NGC when a coin has nice toning on the reverse. There were a few occasions-once at PCGS and once at NGC-where they did not follow the request. Every other time it has worked.

Pretty much all of my NGC and PCGS Lincoln Cents with the Shield (2010-Date) have the shield or reverse side facing forward. In fact, I have only one facing the "normal" way. It works, the coin is secure, it is graded and life goes merrily on. I have 56 graded "Shield" cents.
