Assembly completed 3 days ago…but no grades released

Has anyone experienced this? I have two PSA orders in progress. One has a timer icon next to Assembly and the other has a green check mark next to it showing that it’s been completed. I called PSA yesterday to confirm there was no issue with my credit card (happened once because I had to replace the one on file while an order was pending). The person I spoke to was helpful and said assembly was completed 3 days ago and seemed confused as to why the grades weren’t being released. Seems odd now that grade release follows assembly instead of QA checks.

Usually takes 5-7 days for me. It's an odd stage in the process, like it's stuck between stages.

Nowadays does the QA check truly take place?

I have a pack order that arrived at their location January 15th. Probably 1 month to go before I get them back.

Anecdotally, I've found that the longer QA process, the higher likelihood of hitting a card that's worthy of an upcharge.

I have a 12-item Value Oversized (1979-Older) sub that was marked arrived May 5.
Reached Research & ID on May 21.
    Estimated Completion July 28.

Waited a long time for an Oversized special that never came. (watch there be one in June LOL)
Increasing grading fees and $40 a pop is rough for some of the PC registry stuff, but what's a guy supposed to do.

Thanks. While I harbor no delusion of such a thing happening, it’s odd because the current process (as advertised) says that QA checks occur after grades are ready/released. So if research, authentication, grading and assembly were all completed three (now four) days ago, I can’t figure what the delay would be in releasing grades. There’s no additional “work” involved except for maybe someone pressing a button? Oh well. Gotta let it go.

    Geoff,

While I’m not positive, from how the process moves along I think ‘Grades Ready/Released’ is basically synonymous with and could also be called ‘Billing’. At least, that has been my experience and in line with what PSA states happens along the way; SGC and BVG both bill (or used to) upon receipt whereas PSA is once service is completed. It’s not necessarily when the invoice is sent (it can be) but when the order is billed out. And then you could have a small additional wait for the QA checks that happen and then they’re on the way to shipping.

    I hope this helps, amigo.

Thanks for the feedback. In the “old days”, I remember QA1 and 2 occurring after assembly and before they released the grades, but now it seems like grades should be available right after assembly is complete.

In any event, I was charged and the grades were finally released this morning. All 70s cards. One pleasant surprise, some as expected and a few disappointments with 1978 Topps Basketball. Over the years, I’ve gotten 13 PSA 9s from that set but cannot get that elusive 10…I need to stop chasing it!
