EDLC has had a great second half so far. He has the most errors of anyone but probably not the worst fielding percentage. He’s around .945 last I checked him which is pretty bad for SS but his errors are in bunches and his range and arm are excellent. Ton of potential. He’s gotta be up with the NL WAR leaders.

PCA is a player only a Cubs fan would love. I have not been watching the Cubs this year unless they’re playing the Brewers as they’ve been out of contention for a while. Pete came up last year to a lot of fan fare and was talked up a lot. He’s a good outfielder but I think Perkins, Frelick, and Mitchell are all better offensively and defensively. All of these guys arrived in the same timeframe. Mitchell was a 2022 call up but he missed almost all of 23 with a shoulder injury. As a brewer fan I hope PCA is a fixture in Chicago for years to come.

As a Cubs fan, I really like PCA and hope he can figure out major league pitching. Defensively he's ready for the majors - great speed, great arm, good instincts. etc.. But as many have pointed out, he's AAA hitting wise right now. I think the Cubs are going to be patient with him and take a wait and see approach, but I just don't know how long. Bellinger's not playing CF anymore, so he'll get playing time and a chance to improve.

I agree with the OP...he is fun to watch. I hope he sticks.

30 games to go and the Northsiders still got a glimmer of hope for the playoffs. The kid's gonna put them on his shoulders and race to the finish.

3 hits, 2 runs and 3 steals last nite. Let's Go PCA! Let's Go Cubs! ;)

    Hilarious.

Dude gets a highlight for an inside the park home run and people think he's suddenly a good hitter.

That .274 OBP is amazing and not in the good way.

Ease up. I never claimed he was suddenly a good hitter and he was already making crazy highlights before last week. He's a child. I don't care to compare him to Elly or the Brewers or anyone else. I'm excited because he has a bright future in Major League Baseball. He's fun to watch, even with the screw-ups in the outfield and on the base paths. Give him a chance. If he does wild things before the season ends, great. Next year looks even better.

I would encourage members of this forum to quit crapping on other people's threads with stats and gibberish. I don't care. I love watching baseball. Your can keep your rhetoric and your criticism. I've had my share of "WTF's???" with the Cubs this year. :p

It was a battle for survival in that miserable heat. I watched and waited for the Pirates bullpen to show up. They didn't disappoint me.

PCA went 4 for 4, scored 4 times. They intentionally walked him with 2 on, 2 out in the 9th and a 10-9 lead. Oops.

It was nice the Cubs overcame the continued downward spiral of Hendricks. They still got a chance in this race.

I don’t know who I worry about most in the playoffs of the wild card teams, but that best of 3 series sucks. AZ is the scariest team to me in that field the way they’ve been playing. Last year they were also in buzzsaw mode when the peewees ran into them. So go Cubs and Padres maybe.

This already is the "playoffs". At very least, the way MLB has created the schedule will keep me watching multiple games each day. AZ and SD are hot now so I want to see at least one of those teams crash. And the Mets. Fingers crossed. ;)

Well…….he’s a weird lookin’ dude with a hot stick beaten face….on his way to the next playoff series with a pocketful of great memories and millions of dedicated fans, a potentially huge contract extension, and he plays for a team that captivates the entire freekin’ world because of who they are and where they live. If the Cubs don’t win it this year, I’ll be disappointed but no less excited about the upcoming season. I'm happy for you -- it's always fun/exciting when your favorite team does well. However, your favorite player must work on his plate discipline (over the winter) or he's gonna go down in flames. When the announcers are commenting about how to get PCA to strike out -- that means the entire league knows how to pitch to him (until he adjusts his approach).

Dude, I could whiff him with high stinky cheese and I can barely lift my arm. :D

That's his way. I'm certain the team gurus will be discussing his hitting style as time passes, but it's tough to argue with results. He pretty good at what he does now. He will learn how to take a walk someday when he realizes not every swing needs to go over the fence.

The "entire league" does not know how to pitch to him. Yu Darvish didn't know yesterday. That was surprising to me.

I am worried PCA's bat is going to go the way of Javy Baez. PCA has no plate discipline and his high average/high SLG% he had in the first half was not sustainable with the 'swing at everything' approach. The pitchers did see they can pitch out of the zone often and he would chase....and as a result he was awful in the second half. His overall hitting ended up better than average, but warning signs are there and they showed.

There were only ten qualifying hitters in MLB with a worse OB% than PCA.

Baez did the same thing. He actually had a couple good years with a good BA and SLG, but his swing at everything approach caught up to him.

Baez before age 27 .270/.310/.484.....similar to PCA during this full 2025 season of .247/.287/484.
    Baez after age 27 .234/.275/.387.

PCA as an overall player will play for a while(similar to Baez due to their defensive prowess and PCA speed), but being a superstar is going to be hard if he can't improve his plate discipline.

It isn't easy for a Zebra to change their stripes though.

PCA might have to play like Bret Butler in the first half next year to earn more pitches inside the strike zone...and then let his power show once he sees those pitches. If he can do that then he will keep the pitchers(and league) honest going forward and keep them guessing.

Cubs bats are hot(for now) and PCA finally showing a little life...but I think many see they don't have the pitching to sustain a deep playoff run. If they could put Shota in the closet until September maybe he won't be worn out by October. He's pitching good but for how long?

I like the Cubs chances. Cards and Pirates Reds will fade, the AL East other than the Braves is just bad since the Phillies forgot how to play baseball. I think the Phillies will pick it up but the Nats will fade, Mets will Met.

Overall Cubs have a very easy schedule up until the all star break

Cabrera was a sneaky-good pickup. He's a little wild perhaps, but good. I think Horton is as good as Imanaga. We'll see how long Boyd is out and what Steele looks like... never know.

You know who's looking good... Andrew Foxx and Jimmy Vaughn.

    @Basebal21

I just looked at the Cubs schedule and I don't think I would say it's an easy schedule... certainly not a very easy schedule.

The Cubs have 2 off days in May with the Brewers, Astros at home and Cards on the road. June has some weaker opponents, but 3 games in Colorado are always nice to wear out a BP and then Toronto, MKE and who knows if the Mets will have figured anything out.

Anyways - it's hardly very easy, unless that's a sinister dig at the Brewers there who they play 6 times. I get it, the Brewers aren't flashy, but they are still one of the better all-around teams in MLB. They called up another couple pitchers from their farm team, the Boston Red Sox, in Kyle Harrison and Shane Drohan and their rotation looks better than it did even after trading Peralta - though admittedly that has more to do with Misirowski than it does with Sproat. Oddly enough people might look at Tobias Myers as the bigger piece in that trade than Peralta soon enough.

2 years later, Rafael Devers got traded for Andruw Monasterio!

  • ElMagoStrikeZoneElMagoStrikeZone Posts: 1,753 ✭✭✭✭✭

The early season hype over PCA died down pretty quick. It was probably the best thing that could have happened to this team. His poor hitting in the first 20 games or so exposed a need for Counsell to change his lineup around and find a combination that works. The Cubs are a really strong group, not just the one guy everybody loves. It's nice to see what that's done to the attitude of every teammate as they currently experience great success. It's been fun to watch so far.

The long term effects of losing pitchers may surface eventually. However, that aspect of baseball is affecting all teams. Pitchers are going down every day, it seems. Nobody wins a marathon in the first leg of the race. I hope they build a huge lead in the division to give themselves a cushion in case of a prolonged downward spin.

They have 2 top tier teams on the schedule. They have the Padres and the Braves. For every game against them they have two against someone like Texas, Houston, St Louis, Pitt, As, Giants, Rockies etc. Houston is bad this year in rebuild mode and Correra is out for the year hurting himself in batting practice. Houston has two hitter and their pitching is bad. Altuve has not been good this year. Pitt the Skenes start day will be rough.

It wasnt a sinister dig at the Brewers. Theres no need to be sinister about it. Their line up is bad, they have two hitter and Yellich is hurt. They refuse to spend money during the renovations even though it was almost all tax payer funded. Brewers have Padres, Dodgers, Braves, Cubs left before the break.

Brewers also have the Astros and if were going to pretend theyre good that cancels out. The Astros are also currently debating having a fire sale and rebuilding. Alverez would bring back a big haul

So yeah. My read was dead-red. You're trying to press buttons so you can get your reaction and then say how "no one wants to talk Sports...". Nah dude. You're transparent. Little antagonist just tossing little inflammatory remarks around. Which, speaking for myself.. Love it. That's 100 for me. But then you can't take punches back and you turn into a puddle of crybaby. So no. You don't discuss sports...

    Brewers hitters above average statistically.
Turang, Chourio, Vaughn, Yelich, Mitchell, Contreras. Frelick even. The team is also 20-16 and have been without a lot of their key players.

Cubs... as of this moment.. The Cubs first half schedule is ranked at #13... out of 30. Based on today's data. 13/30. Very easiest ever? See? Facts... You stay away!.

Brewers have the 2nd toughest schedule so far and projected through the first half? Don't agree with the numbers? Fine.... Make up whatever you want so long as you're talking sports. Nice try! Instead of talking sports...

Why is it that every time I attempt to discuss sports with you you just try and gaslight me with personal insults? I dont really care it just makes you look bad and you get offended by everything

Brewers near bottom of the league in payroll

Their SS, 3B, and LF have over 300 plate appearances and have the same amount of HRs for the Brewers as I do, 0

Yelich might be back by the end of the month from injury. Bauers isnt good hes the guy that every team throws in a trade to let GMs say they got extra value. These arent guys that are rookies, theyre in their prime with a history of not being able to hit and are cheap to sign

Hamilton bad, Bauers bad, Vaugn has 17 plate appearances. Churio 14 ABs.

Dogders, Padres, Braves, Cubs coming up. Theyll fade

    Fire AJ Preller
