Got My First Gold Buff

Well I took everyone's opinion and talked with the local coun club which I am joining now and made friends with the local coin shop. It worked out great, the guy sold me a 2006 W for under spot price and let me pick out a really nice regular buff plus a cool penny. Very cool guy. He bought the gold buffalo awhile back so even under spot he was making a good amount back. Very happy

    Awesome deal for under spot!

Both of the buffs look great. The gold is so beautiful.

Be careful about what’s written on the 2x2’’s though. The steel cent looks reprocessed and the 37 nickel isn’t a proof (though it is very nice!)

Actually he told me he thought something might be up with the penny, was very upfront about it. Said it was either tampered with or just a really nice find lol I still wanted it cause I liked it. And they were both free 🙂

He actually said maybe mercury dipped

Your dealer sounds like a nice guy, but he writes some strange stuff on his 2x2's.
    Nice gold Buff !

The dealer sounds like a straight shooter, but I'll agree with @thebeav, the misinformation on the flips is eyebrow-raising. On that buffalo nickel, it can't be "proof" and "D" at the same time. So that's odd.

Good to know but I'm still very pleased with my purchase price and free coins

Also your 37 D Buffalo nickel is NOT Rainbow toned.

Thanks for everyone's input, I'll keep a good eye out for that stuff. But regardless I am very happy with how it worked out. I got a gold oz buffalo for 150 under spot and got a nice 37 d nickel that has light toning plus a cool penny for free

I wouldn't call a dealer "a straight shooter" if they intentionally write misleading or flat out incorrect information on a 2x2. I don't trust someone like that. Of course, if the writing on the flips is from you then my previous comment is moot.

The 1937-D Buffalo nickel is a business strike coin and not a proof while the 1943-S Lincoln cent has been messed with mightily.

And no I did not write lol

I'd check the weight and composition of that buffalo in a hurry. The "dealer" is not to be trusted.

That would be a NEW one given that it appears to be in the original Presentation Packaging

I recently sold an raw American Arts Medal bought when issued by the U.S. Mint years ago. The dealer pulled out his specialty equipped briefcase, and proceeded to measure and weight the gold coin to confirm it was genuine.

over the years the technique for imparting proof frosting

below is a 2006 proof frosting closeup from pcgs' coinfacts. the frosting on yours should look the same. world's tiniest grains of sand. too big or too small? counterfeit

also, the shiny wavy areas in the fields should match exactly (likely the last detail a counterfeiter would spend time on). unfortunately finding a good shot of the fields is proving difficult.

here is your photo. the image processing makes it impossible to see the frosting

    the lips should match exactly

you've got the coin to look at and the pictures on pcgs' coinfacts. have at it

150 under is a great buy. you'd probably be asked to pay at least 100 over. so i understand the suspicion

I've seen fakes in OGP. It's very easy to acquire OGP on eBay. Local dealer got hosed on an AGE that was in OGP and turned out to be gold plated.

It's rather hard to trust a dealer selling gold for under melt (no matter what he paid) while also labeling a 1937D buffalo as a proof. But I'm glad it checked out.

Ya the guy was just very upfront, he said he liked to make good deals for people. He was happy as long as he was making money and he had purchased 2 of these buffalo awhile ago. But just because he did sell them to me under spot I actually took them to my gold jewelers shop and had him check them. He said the were legit and a great buy. Im happy. Got my gold buffalo plus some free stuff
