He will be releasing a 2nd edition (I have no idea when exactly). Would be great is all here sent him images of new varieties they have in their collection to make his 2nd edition book all that much better.

The 2nd edition will be of the following book:
A variety guide to the pillar coinage of the Guatemala, Bogota, Lima, Potosi, and Santiago mints 1751-1772
Hi. Any hint when Brad will release the 2nd Edition?
He asked me to keep it private since he is not 100% sure of the exact date (year even) but gave me an estimate. I will update if ever he lets me know and is OK with me saying it on the forum.
You still have time to send images to him if that is your concern.
I just bought this one with wide letter spacing. 1757 Lima Real.
I had emailed Brad about it previously but I'm assuming that he is away as he can't access his digital files atm
Peace
I have seen that variety, a nice color on your new 1R addition.
@TheGoonies1985
Do you guys have a list of these LIMA 1R that are scarce or better dates?
The top rarest 1 reales from Peru 1751-1772 are the unique 1751 (impossible date really most do not count it in the set) - 1752 - 1760 Carolus - 1766 - 1767 - 1768 and 1772. That is not in any specific order except the 1751. In order would be:
1751 unique
1760 Carolus unique per Yonaka may be others
1766 unique per Yonaka but there are more I know of at least 3
1768 Rarity 3 (3 per Yonaka but there are more than 3 I know of at least 5)
1772 Rarity 3 (3 per Yonaka again there are more than 3 I know of at least 5 or 6)
1767 2 types one rarity 2 and one is rarity 3
as for 1752 (maybe 10-20 exist) it depends on who you ask I would put it after 1766 some would put it after 1772.
As far as scarce they all are except 1757 that is common. Others are uncommon to rare.
Mintages:
1751 Unknown but likely less than 100
1752 Yonaka says a little over 400 were minted but some say more
Other dates over 50 000 were minted maybe not 1760 Carolus.
Why are 1766-1768-1772 so rare when so many were minted over 100 000 for the first two dates and over 60 000 for the 1772 no one really knows.
Of all Latin American countries 1 reales the rarest is the 1751 Peru and I would add the 1760 Colombia (12 to 15 examples known but these are much better followed so my guess is not many if any more exist out there in the wild).
May I ask where did you see that variety ELuis?
Peace
Of the many searches that I normally do, it was on one that I saw it, of all of these dates 1767, 1759, 1756, 1761, 1758 & 1757 - 1R Lima, all in the XF+ - AU, not cheap, this is one of the reasons I asked for a list of these 1 Reales.
I saw your coin too btw.
When did you see a 1767 I have been searching for almost 2 years found 1 for sale (eBay) I purchased and another I purchased from a member on the forum (different variety). Both my 1767's are holed but have very nice details.
Some say there are 2 known 1751's I have yet to ever see images of any except the one on Brad Yonaka book that is in a private collection.
Not too long ago.
Saw also the 1753 with the dot on top of the L & 1759 - These are not in a great shape/condition but not holed, will give it a try at least to one.
Can you PM me the link to the 1767 if you still have it? Thanks.
Can you also PM me the link if you still have it for the 1758? Thanks.
I do not have it anymore.
That is the best 1767 I have seen. What auction house was it do you remember?
In my opinion the 1752 Peru 1 real is rarer than the all these coins minus the 1751 and maybe the 1760 Carolus. If one truly could find out how many still survive you would think based on mintage figures the 1752 would simply have less surviving specimens than the much larger amount minted in say 1766-1768-1772 but this is my gut felling. I could be wrong. My guess is 10-20 1752's exist maybe up to 25 max. I would imagine there are more of the other dates out there somewhere but were I do not know. Even is say more than the reported 424 1752's were actually minted the numbers would be nowhere near 1753 to 1772.
I am not saying the other dates are not very rare but there has to be more out there than Brad Yonaka has seen. Again just based on how many were minted (over 100 000 for 1766 and 1768 and over 60 000 for 1772).
Unless some of these dates had massive amounts melted I can't see why there would not be more out there.
Has anyone sent images to Brad Yonaka? I have to buy my microscope soon and get some images out to him myself. Hopefully before his new 2nd edition book comes out.
Ignoring quality, I'd describe 1753-1757 Peru 1R dates as relatively common, potentially a Judd R-1 with over 1,250.
The 1768 1R is a lot harder to buy in my experience vs. the 1752. Mine is roughly a VG which I think is eligible for a numerical grade (old cleaning but not holed or damaged) but it's not a particularly nice one.
I can't explain the apparent scarcity outside of random events. It's not unusual for the scarcity or at least availability to vary widely in series like this one where it seemingly doesn't correlate closely (if at all) to the relative mintage.
I was lucky enough to add the 1768 & 1772 this year and a few others as well. My 1768 is the first I have seen and the 1752 that sold the other day was the 2nd I have seen (I purchased the first one that I had a chance to buy).
My 1772 is cleaned and my 1768 is low grade neither of the 2 are holed. My 1772 is a new variety (not the one listed by Yonaka).
This is how many I have seen for sale in the last 2 years:
1752 = 2 (1 private collection + 1 auction)
1768 = 1 (1 private collection)
1772 = 2 (1 private collection + 1 auction)
All 3 dates I purchased from the same seller.
Sedwick just ran a nice selection of Lima 1 Real columnarios - Auction 37, fun to watch. Did anybody here bid on any?
Yes, won two 1R, the 1765 and the 1758 XF-45.
Talking about Peru 1 reales in the last 2 years I have been collecting them the date I have seen the least of is the 1768 (only one I was able to purchase). 1766 & 1772 come next with 2 examples (one 1772 I purchased). I have seen zero 1760 Carolus (I guess it is the rarest variety of that date in my experience). 1767 is a tough date. The most common (Yonaka states it as uncommon) date I have seen the fewest of is the 1758 (3 total).
I am not counting the unique 1751 since that coin is likely in a long term collection. I have never seen any sales past or present of this date.
The 1766 sold for 660$ yesterday at Sedwick. No I did not win it I just could not pay 1000$ Canadian (US dollars is 45% higher)....I hope to one day add a 1766 in lower grade.
All in all that was a great opportunity for collectors to add very rare Peru reales (latest Sedwick auction).
Does anyone know if this book will be hardcover similar to the 2nd edition Mexico book?
I certainly hope so, even at the added cost.
I had to stretch a bit, but managed to get the 1766 - that was the only lot I was after. I figured another opportunity won't come up so quickly, so it probably was now or never.
Well done it will be a while before another comes up for sale in any grade. Could be years. The price was reasonable but I have a lower budget so looking for a lower grade. If I had more funds would for sure have bid. A coin worth owning!!!
I have no idea he did not mention any of that to me when I ask I only asked when he thought the book would be released. He asked me not to talk about that since he was not sure when he will be releasing the 2nd edition. So I will respect his wishes. But like you I am looking forward to buying my copy once released.
As far as I know of there are at minimum 4 known 1766 Peru 1 reales. Two forum members own one each and now you so 3 total plus the 1 in Yonaka's book. I am sure there are more out there they just never come up for sale. They are very rare. My guess there has to be at least 50 minimum that exist (based on the mintage of more than 150 000). Looking forward to add one to my set and been one step closer to completing the date run 1752-1772 I am at 91% complete (I also do varieties for Peru 1 reales but nowhere near complete with those).
Well, at least it stayed in the family. I was the underbidder. I expected it to go for less, being a coin with some issues. For what it is it’s fairly attractive though. I was able to win 10 Peru minor pillars. Two that I shot for and lost are the 1766 1R and the 1752 2R.
I'm BACK!!! Used to be Billet7 on the old forum.
I have only seen two examples of the 1766 Lima 1 real, besides this one: the example sold by Emporium Hamburg, and a repaired example sold by Rio de La Plata.
I think it is significant Aureo&Calico show no examples of the 1766 real in their auction archives, which go back about 28 years. That tells you something. Their archives show no 1768's either, but a few 1767's.
I am not looking for a complete set of Lima 1 real columnarios, but would not mind improving the holed example I got off Ebay.
You know what, I really thought as much! Either you or, EMLA. Sorry my friends...
At least you got yourself a whole bunch of others. Please share them sometime. That 1752 2R is quite nice.
You are right, this 1766 ain't going to win any beauty prizes - she is what she is, but I am happy.
The Sellshopp and Patterson collections had one too. I don't know if these are duplicates with the other four.
I own the coin sold by Emporium Hamburg. The group lot also has a 1768 which I grade a VG. It's been cleaned for sure and looks to have residue which could use removal. I need to buy a better magnifier to inspect it more closely, but as of now, think it should receive a numerical grade with NGC or PCGS.
No worries my friend, I already have a 1766, yours is much nicer. I just had so many priorities, a couple of the more sought after pieces fell by the wayside. I got a BUNCH of really really tough coins! Here’s my current 1766 example.

The square hole is pretty cool, probably punched with a hand-cut nail. If it’s gotta have a hole, this is a cool one to have.
I’m aware of at least five. 😉. Now you are too.

I hope so as well. I've had to purchase a second copy of his guide to Guatemala, Bogota, Lima, Potosi & Santiago because, through use not abuse, the pages started separating from the binding, which I feel was of poor quality, at least speaking from my own experience - though I could just have ended up with a lemon by chance.

Mine has pages coming out as well. Plus, I'm willing to pay the extra price for the more attractive presentation. I bought Gilboy's reference in 2002 and it's in the same condition as when I bought it, though I don't use it much anymore.
If any of you guys have one for sale or upgrade at some point PM me. > @JohnnyCache said:
Been using mine (soft back) almost daily for 5-6 years the front and back pages are a mess now and the plastic is peeling off.
I will shot Brad an e-mail and ask so we can all know what type he will be selling. Once I get answer I will post it here.
Buy the PDF and get it printed out in quality paper, spiral bound
Peace
I buy both that way once my book has aged with love I can just print out a new one.
I just have the binding cut and put a spiral binding on it. Better that way anyway, it’ll lay flat while it’s open.

The cover is delaminating however, not unlike a few coins I have 😂

Here is Brad Yonaka's response (I did not mention the country where he is moving out of respect of his privacy):
Hi,
the 2nd edition is going to take awhile for me to produce. I am in the process of moving to (outside the USA) to live. I intend to return to my work on the book once moved. It will be available in hardback and pdf.
Best regards,
Brad
So I am guessing not 2025 and maybe not 2026. Will see.
Gives us more time to send new images of varieties we see or own.
Took mine to a book binder and had it hardbound, which was well worth it. It is far more durable (now) than a spiral-bound.
Well, I only had 'permission' for one lot, so I decided to up my bids on it.
You got the right 1 real Peru in this auction. It was the best coin for sure. Other good ones but not like the 1766.
I am going to continue my long search for the next one. Hoping for a lower graded one in the 200$-300$ US range.
Cheaper to just buy the PDF in that case.
Cheaper yes, nicer no. If I print it out it’s on standard printer paper, not coated paper like the real printing is.
