Question: Sending Coins In To Get Cac Stickered

I have a few quick questions about submitting graded coins for CAC stickering. From what I understand, they have closed memberships for direct submissions. I found a local coin shop that is a CAC-approved dealer and is willing to send my coins in. Based on your experience, when submitting through coin shops or other intermediaries, do they charge a fee for this service? If so, is it just the shipping and the $22 per sticker, or are there additional charges? What do they typically charge for this service?
I am located in NJ and from what is seems online Cac is also located here so thats a plus. Also any deals on submitting for stickers?

I think they opened it back up. Try the website. Each coin is a different charge based on the value of the coin. The web portal has it so you can scan the coin, it shows the service and the grade and then gives the estimated value. Try signing up first, it is not hard to send coins in.
If you can be patient, the best option is to put your name on the CAC waiting list. Your name may come up sooner than you think.
Every dealer has a different approach in terms of fees; but, expect them to be compensated for their time. If you agree to sell your coins afterwards through a dealer, you will get the best terms.
If you don't have that many to submit using an approved dealer or fellow collector in your area that has submission ability is the easiest way. If you have lots to submit then apply for a collector account, I don't know what the wait is currently but it could be a few months with no guarantee that you would be approved.
Cannot help with your questions as I've had my collector account for about 10 years so I've not used a dealer to submit for me in a very long time. The few times I did have someone submit for me there was no additional charges/fees and the few times that I have submitted for other collectors I have not charged them any additional fees. But that aspect will depend on each individual.

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
if it's sizable submission maybe they will accept it in person, you're in NJ, lately I am hesitant to ship anything via any service, even Uber lol...for all you know you can be a neighbor down the road .
"They" As in Cac? I have around 10 Coins I'd like to send in of high value.
Any idea fee wise what they would charge? If there was a fee. If anyone has been charged. Just so I have something to compare to know I am not being ripped off?
Least patient person here. I called Cac, the women working there said its been closed for over 2 years.
I believe you have a good idea what is involved when sending coins to PCGS. The same amount of time is involved in sending coins to CAC. Then ask yourself what be a fair compensation having someone else doing it for you. There are no regulations as to how much someone can charge you for this service.
You could also check the CAC Population Report/Price Guide to determine whether it's even worth sending the coins to CAC.
Another option is to directly send your coins to CACG.
First of all, why don't you ask the coin shop directly? That is assuming you're too far away to hand deliver the coins. If the shop charges an extra fee you're not comfortable with, you may opt to find someone to piggyback on. For example, I am a member of an online CAC submission group which does not charge any extra fees. Also, the fee for a coin that does not pass is $16.50.

Not sure what you mean by “time involved” in sending them in—I can fill out everything that’s needed. Basically, I just need to list the coin dates and send them together for stickering only. I’ll package them myself; the dealer would simply submit them on their behalf since they have the CAC membership. I’m only 30 minutes from CAC’s NJ office. I’d love to do it myself, but membership’s closed. It doesn’t make sense to pay for CACG grading when these are already PCGS-graded high-grade examples—everything I’m sending is worth stickering.
I’ll be reaching out soon, but in the meantime I’m doing a bit of due diligence to learn from others’ experiences. I was just curious to see from others before I go ahead whether submitting through a dealer adds any extra fees or other costs/How the process has been for those who aren't members through CAC.
I never charged when I submitted for others either as a tag along or if they were the sole submitter. I figure the extra postage was enough. IIRC I would send the other person a filled out and signed submission form and they would send it to CAC along with payment and get the coins returned to them. A good dealer could add value by pre-screening your coins.
Note that you can submit using another person's account, provide the payment, and have the coins shipped back directly to you so all you really need is a form from a member with their info on the member section. The complication is that the member will get all of the emails and also it's only $22 for coins that pass and $16.50 for those that don't so you don't know the whole amount up front so there would end up being a refund of some sort depending how good/lucky you are.

I one time offered to surrender my membership so someone else could have it.
Gotcha, Im gonna call them up again tomorrow. That is another idea ill look into. The Cac Site says its possible to submit it in person since im I think less than a half hour away from CAC's offices it would make sense to. And maybe pick it up from there too? I'd have to ask them tomorrow.
Call them and see if they'll take walkins even if you aren't a member.
I get the impression that the stickering operation is operating at full capacity and so they are probably done adding new members unless or until business starts to slow.
I'm pretty sure being a non-member isn't an option because that's how their system operates. If they add you to the system, you become a member.

I called several weeks back and I believe thats the case. Im gonna call up again, tomorrow if they say the same I will first go to my LCS dealer that can send them, if theres a fee I will see if there are any individuals out there like the individual above mentioned who would be willing to use their own account for me to submit in the very near future.
Did CAC accept your friend's check or did you need to supply your own check?
I'm not a spokesperson for CAC, but I would be surprised if they would allow this.

I can't remember if we did a personal check but I think so, I know it was also done with a cashier's check.

I recently sent in a submission using the account of a CAC dealer who was kind enough to let me use their account. I filled out the paper form, used their account #, sent along a personal check for the 22 per coin plus the return postage (same as CAC grading), and just checked the box to have them returned direct to me along with my address. The partial refund for coins that did not sticker came to me as a check from that dealer a bit later than the coins, which came direct to me.
What about this ?
@JimTyler - that’s for grading in VB only, no stickering.

I would opine that the real value add from submitting through a dealer is another layer of screening, and shipping & insurance costs.
As collectors, we often view our coins favorably, sometimes a bit too favorably. Experience plays a huge part, but in many cases, a dealer might be able to save you more money than you end up having to pay him in total. Someone with much submission experience has a good idea of what JA is looking for with certain series, and what is an absolute road block..such as PVC, repairs, and artificial color.
Depending on experience, a dealer might implore you to exclude half of them, possibly assist with restoration and regrading if feasible. If a collector wanted me to submit a coin that I consider to be a pulverized car turd, I might just flat out refuse to include it at all. Not a theory backed by science, but in my opinion, if the first coin out of the box is a dog, it might negatively impact the results of the whole submission. This goes for any grading service really, but it might be advantageous to structure the lineup in a specific order.
As far as charges, for me it just depends on the situation. If it’s a collector liquidating their collection, we might make an agreement on pricing based on results…provided that they are coins I want to buy. If it’s a substantial deal, there may be no charge at all, if there’s enough profit to pad it into the total. In other situations, one coin from a repeat client for instance, I’ll only charge cost or have them cover shipping.
Otherwise, it would likely depend on the value and/or quantity of being submitted. Maybe it will be $5 or $10 per coin, maybe a percentage of the total, or even a flat rate. At any rate, the extra charges would be trivial considering that you would likely save on shipping if you don’t have private insurance, and they’re able to provide access and peace of mind. Some collectors have acute anxiety attacks when they ship coins, so that in itself is plenty of reason to use a dealer.

I’ve made submissions in person, I’m pretty sure any member can drop off a sub but special arrangements can be made for higher value subs.
Speaking of value, @Matt04, you say “10 coins of high value”..but that’s a subjective and ambiguous term.
For CAC, the max for economy submissions is $3000, express is 10k, and walkthrough is 125k. You can’t mix tiers so for example Econ and express would need to be split into two separate subs, and the turnaround time differs.
It might behoove you to post some pictures here if you can, even if it’s only some of them. Let us know where they rank in your opinion, and you might get some valuable feedback from members here. If you're unable to, maybe just some details on what type of coins they are and the current grade. Often times, newer members here are eager to submit coins where a sticker would have virtually no benefit at all, or even coins that aren't accepted for stickering at all.

TBH I don't recall, but I think it was their check. They filled out the form so I wasn't sure what the total would be.
This piqued my curiosity. So, I called CAC Stickering in NJ, and asked.
Didn't specifically ask about quantity or value. But the CAC employee I just spoke with said members that scheduled an appointment could drop-off their submissions. Ditto for pick-up upon completion.
FWIW - PCGS just started 'Walk-In Wednesday' drop-off events. Reference
I'm not sure that was ever in question. The question was if a non-member could do it.

Here would be the potential contenders for submission, the MS65 47-P would be the only one I may decide not submitting.
For Insuring, if its the same way as PCGS, using the PCGS price guide value the value would be placed at around $4000
Oops.
I interpreted the exchange between @marcmoish, @TomB, and @PeakRarities to be about members being able to drop-off submissions. Hence, the call to CAC to confirm.
My mistake.
If you were using someone else's dealer account or account in general, would it really matter though? Couldn't you just drop off the coins, submission papers, check all in one go, once ready pick it up when notified by the dealer?
Sounds reasonable to me. But, this is, ultimately, a CAC process. And, if you want to submit in this manner, I humbly suggest confirming the acceptability of a proxy with them. You never know what kind of security measures they have implemented, especially for the pick-up.
Also, if there is a waiting list, be sure to get added to it so this issue will eventually be eliminated.
I went on my Cac account, I don't see the waitlist. Only "Subscribe to newsletter"
Just spoke with CAC Stickering in NJ.
According to the rep I spoke with, CAC Stickering is not currently adding new members at the collector level, and there is no waitlist. She recommended using one of their authorized dealers.
Do dealers still pay a higher rate than collectors? IIRC dealers get no refund for coins that don't sticker.
I'm not stating that CAC would disallow in-person submissions. Rather, I was answering the post that I quoted that suggested that a person without a CAC submission account already could go to CAC and submit directly. I have personally gone to CAC dozens of times and submitted coins, but I am authorized to do so.

New policy - from the CAC website
"If a coin does not sticker, there will be a 25% discount on the stickering fee."
Do they let you pay when you pick them up? Do they accept cash, debit cards, credit cards or personal checks if you don't have a business account?
I have always done walkthrough at CAC and from what I understand the list of folks they allow to do a walkthrough is rather small. So, I bring the coins to CAC and wait around a while until they are returned and they I give them a business check.

Update, 1 week ago I dropped off a set of my quarters to CAC to get stickered. Shoutout to @BAJJERFAN for helping with the process and allowing me to submit on behalf of his membership.
Curious if anyone has any ideas what the current or most recent turn around times are? I've heard 2-3 days to a week, the submission just shows as "received".
In my recent experience if they got it at the beginning of this week, you'll have results by end of next week.
http://ProofCollection.Net
hopefully there will be an update then soon, not sure if its like pcgs and says "grading" online to know its being viewed for stickering. Walked in to drop it off last Tuesday so fingers crossed!
No, the stickering process happens in the matter of hours so it pretty much goes straight from received to shipping.
http://ProofCollection.Net
hmm gotcha, so wonder why its still showing as recieved.
It's in progess and hasn't made it to the next step. Be patient!!
Patience is not something I have ! lol, my fingers are crossed! Love waiting with the unknown.
Unless you’re in the medical profession I wouldn’t expect you to have patients. And if you are, I hope you also have patience.
