New Purchase of this Scarce Lincoln Cent
So along with the rare 1921-S Lincoln cent I showcased earlier this week, I also negotiated a deal to purchase this scarce 1926-S Lincoln. While it certainly isn’t a TopPop for its date, MM, or grade and color designation, it is somewhat rare in that only 24 examples have been graded in this category. And, only 9 of those have been green beaned. No golds. So hopefully you’ll enjoy glancing at this 1926-S, MS65RB CAC Lincoln as much as I do. Thanks for looking again. Zack.

That's a lot of red on that coin and, from what I recall, they don't typically come with either so much red or such even color. That is a nice snag.

Zack ( @jfriedm56 ), there are two important facts that you left out that makes your coin even more special than what you have already described:
- While you mention this coin is not an RB Top Pop, PCGS has graded ONLY ONE RB finer than yours, and that’s just a 65+RB. No 66RB’s graded at all by PCGS! (And only four 65RD’s graded by PCGS, none higher).
- In my opinion, even more important/impressive than #1 above, is the fact that presumably some of those nine CAC stickers on coins graded 65RB are on coins graded by NGC! Keep in mind some of those nine CAC stickers might also be on coins graded 65+RB. So how many coins in this grade are there that are eligible for a CAC sticker? Here’s the answer: there are a total of 59 coins graded MS65RB or MS65+RB (24 graded 65RB and one graded 65+RB by PCGS, and 33 graded 65RB and one graded 65+RB by NGC). So out of those 59 coins in this tough date/mm eligible for a CAC sticker, your coin is one of only nine that merits a CAC sticker!
Keep in mind, for a coin to be graded with an RB suffix, it only needs to have at least 5% red in it. Your coin has a ton of red! Additionally, at this price point for this 1926-S in this lofty MS65RB grade, chances are high that most of those 59 coins have been submitted to CAC for stickering, and as we see, most of them failed!

@winesteven, Steve thank you so much for your fantastic write up. Your analysis concerning CAC is spot on. The factor I failed to consider was that out of those 9 CAC’d that some of those are likely NGC graded coins that you pointed out. I’ll have to research that and determine a number to potentially subtract from the PCGS graded 65 RBs. Yes, so that would even knock that number even lower for those of us that only purchase primarily PCGS. Again, I truly appreciate your comments knowing how knowledgeable you are and have a super keen eye for quality and eye appealing coins. Thanks. Zack

Regardless of grade or stickers, your coin is really nice and has an above average strike as @WaterSport mentioned. Collectors of the Lincoln Cent know that the 26-s comes poorly struck. The O in ONE CENT disappearing, but not on yours. Congrats

I'd like to piggyback on the treatise written by @winesteven regarding this issue in this grade with CAC sticker. If one goes to the PCGS CoinFacts page for the RB color designation for the issue and then goes through the listed auction appearances we can ask the PCGS-linked databases to return only coins described as having a CAC sticker, are designated as RB, grade at least MS65 and are graded by PCGS.
