Loose change! Millions of dimes spill onto Texas highway after semitruck crash
A crash Tuesday morning (April 29 2025) left millions of dimes scattered across the highway in Texas' Wise County and closed down southbound lanes of U.S. 287 for most of the day.
A Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) trooper told the Wise County Messenger there were 8 million dimes on the truck.
Street sweepers were also used to collect the shiny new dimes on the road.
The road will remain closed as coin collection continues; there's no estimate when the road will reopen.

About 40 years ago there was a 48 foot van load of Denver dimes lost in Oklahoma. The van was on it's side in the grass and dirt. The street racers named that stretch of road, dead mans curve. The van had to be unloaded before being set back up on it's wheels. Forklifts were brought in but they didn't help much. All the pallets were on their sides. Dimes were spread out over hundreds of feet. To make it more fun there was oil and fuel everywhere. It took two days to clean up the mess.
A few months later a trailer of glass was lost on the same curve. That was even a bigger mess.
Not long after that, the work started to remove the sharp curve.
I wonder if the server can handle millions of posts about brand new dimes with shovel marks.
