Presumably there is a reverse design element visible on the other side of the struck L, which is obscured by the holder.

Nice group of old copper errors. I believe the 1811 Large Cent is a misaligned die.

My primary focus the last few years has shifted from coin errors to paper money errors, so I'll show what is probably my top favorites for each:

Thanks... not much meat left on the coin but it's a fairly clean planchet, no corrosion, decent color, and the date was bold... I'm not an error specialist by any stretch... again, thanks for the clarification. Best, Leo

My guess is that it was effaced somewhere between the 50-75 strikes(amount of rings shown).

I handled this die cap over 20 years ago. It’s an amazing mint error!

Mike, I do have to mention that if I hadn't seen this article on your website years ago, I might not have been so aggressive trying to acquire this piece over the years. It's the Centerpiece of my Collection, Thank you!!

    Hi Mike Byers,
What do you think happened to the mint mark?

@Bikergeek thanks! And my comment was not meant to pressure in any way ;) There are a few offcenter half dimes out there I know, and the fun is in the hunt!
