Opinions on a Morgan submission

I firmly believe this coin is DMPL but not sure what to do.
Should I crack it out dip it and sent it in raw. It has some brown toning that will easily come off. The surfaces are like water and very reflective.
Or do I submit it in the holder. I feel like if they get it in the holder they will just stick to what it's grade already is.
Or just leave it alone?
I have no intentions of selling it. It's one of my favorites. The details are amazing on this coin. Everything is squared off with nice flat rims.

I would leave it be until its time to sell
Based squarely on the photos I would say the reverse is holding it back. Mind you, grading from photos is folly. Assessing DMPL even more so. Beautiful coin.
@cheezhed I can see why you would say that but the brown tarnish is clouding it up. Although you very well may be right.

If you have a good grasp of grading and PL/DPL standards you should go by what YOU see, not by what others try to decipher from images.

If you’re confident it’s DMPL crack it out and resubmit. I wouldn’t dip it. The brown toning IMHO adds to the eye appeal of the coin. Would an acetone bath remove any haze on the coin?
leave it alone ... excellent as is.

@skier07 it's definetly a brown tarnish. It would come right off.
@Mfeld I'm hesitant to crack it out on one hand. On the other hand it appears DMPL.
What I am really sitting on the fence about is if it should be resubmitted in the holder or sent in raw.
Not really so much about grading the coin.
I posted the coin to use as the example of what I am thinking of doing with it.
Just looking for suggestions of what others might do.
Ideas to toss around.
I really do appreciate what people have to say.
Once I crack it out I can't put it back.
I do feel I am pretty good at judging PL from DMPL but I am not a grader so I am somewhat lacking in comparison.

I understand what you’re saying now. I like tarnished coins and I get the impression that you think the coin without the tarnish has a better chance of winding up in a DMPL holder.
In that case, it comes down to your tolerance for risk. If you’re not comfortable cracking the coin out, don’t. It’s not worth the worry. Resubmit it in the holder, instead.

Have you considered sending it to PCGS and asking them to conserve and regrade the coin?? They will do a better job of assessing than you and forum members. PCGS will also do a better job of conservation(if they assess that as thing to do) and they will grade the coin better than you and forum members.
You state it is a favorite, why risk anything?? Sending it to PCGS as outlined above removes all risk.
@Maywood thats something I never thought of that would definetly be the thing to do.
Does PCGS send reach out an advise the customer what's best to do?
I don't want them to crack it out and conserve it only to receive a similar grade.
With that said it is my opinion the obverse and reverse are DMPL.
I'd like to get a professional opinion for sure.
BTW this coin is a prime example of why you don't need to be wealthy to enjoy collecting coins especially Morgans.

I doubt that anyone can give you an accurate assessment of the coin from your photos, just no way to judge the depth of the mirrors from them. You have a better chance of getting the DMPL by getting rid of the tarnish, looks like old dip residue to me. If you are confident that the grade and PL designation would not be jeopardized by cracking and dipping, then there is little downside. But that is dependent on your assessment being correct.

Don't crack it. "A bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush"
Good to hear from you. I like the way you put things. Very simple advice from a long timer.
I'm going to keep it in it's current holder.
The other reason I wanted to submit it is for the true view but that was secondary.
It currently doesn't have one.

I’m reminded of @SanctionII’s threads about his submissions of proof coins and the frequency at which they do and don’t achieve CAM/DCAM designations he agrees with.
I know it’s comparing proof-like to true proofs, but based on his experiences alone, it seems like a real toss up on whether or not your Morgan would upgrade to DMPL.
There are 2 options other than leaving it alone.:
1. Crack it out and dip it and resubmit it yourself. The downside of this is that you'll have to pay another $20 for variety attrib and I think you risk losing the +.
2. Submit it for restoration which will cost $10 if they do nothing or $10 + GP if it upgrades. They will not contact you to ask you anything. They will make the determination. While they generally do not restore coins to remove toning, on some coins like this one they sometimes will or if they see other issues like PVC. You will get a fresh regrade which is guaranteed not to be worse than what you already have.
Number 2 is the way I would go.

@ProofCollection thank you. That about sums it up.
I know you have done it many times. Everything I pull this coin out it gets the wheels going.
I think I'm going to ver on the side of caution and leave it alone.
It's not like I'm trying to maximize value. It's not for sale. Probably never will be.
