After 11 Years I Finally Uploaded another Coin Video! I had mentioned I'd make a video when I received the Quarters from PCGS, I put the link below. I go through each and every coin I submitted and also a little unboxing of Raw Quarters at the End. I Hope you guys enjoy!

If you have any critiques on the video or suggestions feel free to share them!

You speak very well on the video and the photography is largely fine. There were instances where either you were too close for the focal length of the camera or the autofocus was not picking up the coin properly, but that is trivial. I like that you rotated the coins to show the luster, but I don't know how well anyone could pick up fine details on the coins without the TrueView being shared, which you did on occasion.

It's much better than I could do!

Thanks for your input! The big problem was getting the right lighting, while at the same time not having a glare reflect off the slab, I came up with the idea of using my polarizer filter on the lens, which when in the past I've used for photography sessions with Vehicles it removes most glare reflected off windshields and windows, but It didn't do enough to help out on the slab. Like you said and generally speaking on many videos its really hard to pickup on fine details, I have an idea in my head of how I want to show each coin perfectly, I just have to figure out how to pull it off. I'm working with my Sony A7IV Full Frame Camera with a 16-35 F2.8 Lens. I use it usually for Cinematic Shots or Photography But not for an Unboxing Video! Ha, the lighting environment could be better. I will try to improve on my next video!

Update on my second submission ! I figured my 1932-S wouldn't upgrade I wanted it reholdered anyways cause it had that strange purple special slab. The 1932-P though went from MS65 to MS65+ ! ill take it. It had solid luster and looked great!

What did the "plus" upgrade cost you and is the increase in potential value justified in your opinion?

Great submission and great results. Best TV's I've seen since Phil left. Would like to have seen all of the TV-s. Congrats on a great result and very nice presentation. One of the best video's.

For both Coins I was charged $133 total to my card. Yes.. Insane. I choose the "Regrade" Option which means they regrade it raw out of the holder. I did this originally because 1. I wanted new holders, my 1932-S was in one of those whatnow slabs, my 1932 in an older one as well and I wanted 2. Trueviews. I kinda just said screw it, lets see if any upgrade just to test the waters, I kinda figured the 32-S wouldn't change grades. In my opinion it is not worth regrading unless an upgrade of a + or next grade number is warranted based on what you believe to be an undergraded coin. I got the 1932-P for $250 ish? Its hard to tell what a MS65+ goes for because theres such few recent sales of them. I'd say 300-450 range or more? But this is staying my collection so I won't be selling it.

Not a fan of this TV of the 1932-S, Thoughts?

My impression is that the lighting on the 1932-S is too harsh and the image is color-shifted to yellow, both of which have been all too common on (Non)TruViews these last two or three years. As for the 1932, I think it is underexposed on the obverse.

  • I'm a canon shooter and don't know if sony has a similar option to highlight tone priority, but that will help the slab glare not get blown out. Polarizers in my experience make the birefringence in the plastic visible. Try turning off autofocus and adjusting the focus so you can rest your hands on your desk so you can tilt it more smoothly. If you can't afford a macro lens you could try a diopter filter. Also be sure to use auto iso and set the time it takes to adjust exposure to as low a time as it will let you, on my R10 its 4s.

Someone should start a coin videography group. There are a lot of challenges in making good videos, but most forums, reddits, discord servers etc. for videography are focused on people, and most coin photography tips and tricks don't translate to video.

Not sure when you say "highlight" you mean zebra stripes that can be enabled to highlight overexposed/glare areas. ill look into other filters like the one you mentioned. A Macro Lens is next on my list, I just need the $$$ first haha. I'm working with t

Highlight tone priority is a setting than prevents blown out highlights, like when the light is glaring off the slab. I'm reading on sony cameras its called dynamic range optimization. It will also help show the toning when the coin catches the light.
