1829 LM-3 R-7 Late Die Stage Capped Bust Half Dime - Any info?

I believe this is the LM-3 Late Die State (Reiver state B?). I think it is R-7. I could only find one sale record that was nearly 20 years ago. Are there any capped half dime experts that can help me with the value of this piece? It appears AU Details - Cleaned.

Is that a cud or solder on the reverse? The obverse rim opposite appears blackened and possibly damaged. It would be a strange place for a mount though.

Can you post a pic of the other one you found?

  • It is the cud. Here is a photo of the Heritage sale.

@InGodWeTrustCoins Thanks! That is a very cool reverse cud.

I've got an LM-3, while a later die state, it does not have a CUD, drat. It does have the die crack through the C from Rim and below. Great info and thanks for posting.

Sweet coin, thanks for sharing. You should join JRCS, if you're not already.

@InGodWeTrustCoins The 2006 Reiver coin, in an NGC AU53 (4/17 - edited to 53, previous typo said 58) holder, now resides in a PCGS XF45 slab:

It was purchased by Mr Half Dime, Steve Crain. Upon his passing, it was offered in the 2019 W. David Perkins "Extraordinary Half Dime" sealed bid sale. It appreciated handsomely. Here's the catalog entry:

That 2019 catalog entry above mentions the 2015 sale of another straight-graded XF45. Below is that 2015 catalog entry. I don't know the cert # on that coin but it was lovely:

Here's a link to when @Barndog picked one up. @Cladiator was there in that 2009 thread too!

  • @Bikergeek Thank you so much! That is a ton of information that I would never have found myself. I really appreciate the help. Will be sending this to PCGS.

It appears darker because the rim isn't fully formed, which is due to the cud taking up most of the metal.
