New Great Collections purchase

FlatwoodsFlatwoods Posts: 4,225 ✭✭✭✭✭

I purchased this coin a couple weeks ago. Finally got around to imaging it and thought I'd share the coin and some thoughts.
Since they began great Collections has grown steadily and gotten better.
I appreciate the new Great Photo images. They are well done and help me to make a more informed decision on purchases.
I think they do a great job, especially considering the number of images they do in a week.
Customer service and communication has always been good. Shipping is reasonable. Not much to complain about really.

I do wish that I could search without having to wade through all the details coins but I haven't been able to lately.
I always wished that the thumbnail images were a little bigger so that I wouldn't have to click on so many to see if I even might be interested.

All in all one of my favorite places to search for coins. I appreciate the hard work they put into it.

Oh yeah, the coin. This was more of an impulse purchase. I usually throw out lots of bids. Sometimes with no intent of winning but on coins that I would be happy to own at my bid price. Sometimes one that I just got to have comes along and I bid accordingly. This was one of the former but I'm pleased with it.

    Nice coin!

    And it used to work if you plugged in “-details” into the search to exclude anything after the minus but that seems to have stopped working (when I try that now I still get details results).

    GC is awesome!
    You can eliminate the Details coins via the checkbox below.

    Doesn't work for me.

    With the checkbox ‘unchecked’, you can click the ‘GO’ button down below, and it will eliminate the details coins. Well, at least it does for me.

    Is that in a certain series or all coins?
    Curious. Used to work for me but doesn't any more.

    It works for me, but only if it is the very last thing that I do before hitting the go button.

    I haven’t tried in a while, but it would work for me - except for ANACS coins. Those details ones always showed up but it would filter the others.

    As for the OP coin - nice impulse purchase! I’m assuming it was at a decent price for you, so great!

    That 1877 Quarter is really nice.
    GC has been great for me. They make things easy.

    There is one thing I wish they would do. I wish even the Details coins would have the GreatPhoto image as well. There are some nice coins in Details holders. Probably not possible. It would slow things down too much.

    Once you drill into a series ... cents, nickels, etc, this option becomes available in the left hand column. I use an iMac, and an iPad. Works for me. If you're running Windows, you may want to clear out your temporary files. You may have a browser caching issue.

    Nice coin! I really like GC -- I watch them regularly and I've bought some very nice coins there. Also used them to sell some a couple winters back -- zero problems & good results, would do again.

    It wasn't working for a short time and I emailed them about it. It was fixed the next day
    Go to the series you want and just click on the ungraded/details on top top and uncheck it, then you get the coins without the detailed ones

    Thank you. The problem is I usually search all coins with certain criteria. I will try individual series. Still not ideal but better

    That's fine too, when you do your search and the coins come up you can then uncheck that ungraded/details box

    I’m really pleased with GC’s photos, especially when compared to those by Heritage. Everything I’ve purchased from them has been accurately photographed.

    I recently fought with Heritage to return a MS64RD 1931-d Lincoln cent that would have had trouble grading red-brown today. Nice green PCGS holder but they clearly oversaturated/overcontrasted the photo to create red luster that didn’t exist in-hand. They argued that it was a "Signature" auction so sales were final. In the end, 45 days later, I received a refund after numerous phone calls.

    Buyer beware.

    I love hearing this! I’m glad GreatPhotos are helping collectors bid with confidence on GreatCollections.

    I just submitted a couple of coins and specifically requested GreatPhotos. They are fantastic for both buyers and sellers.

    Very nice pickup! For me, GC has been a positive experience over several years - both buying & selling.
    Last Sunday, I sold a 14 coin consignment that was handled beautifully by them:
    1) Ian designated it as a collection;
    2) All 14 coins had Great Photos from Phil Arnold’s team;
    3) they were able to run the auction on a date I designated in advance (I did give them sufficient lead time);
    4) the results were stellar.
    As a buyer, I have ACH setup & I receive the coins within a few days from auction’s end. Plus, they have a very responsive support staff.
    I don’t know how they could do any better!

    I've always had a good experience with CG.
