New Cherrypick Buffalo variety

This one was on my bucket list. I previously posted a thread about Buffalo nickels with no "F" or Designer's initial. Finding any example other than a 1916 is virtually impossible in Mint State. I have been looking for 20 years for a Mint state 1919 and 1917, no F varieties. This past winter I cherrypicked a Mint state 1919 and just got it back from ANACS. I'd have preferred sending it to PCGS but they don't recognize any date other than 1916 because it's the only one currently in the CPG. I hope that changes with the next edition but it doesn't matter to me because it's for my core variety collection anyway. The F was abraded away by the Mint employees. This example also shows severe abraded area on the throat, neck and temple areas. It's only the second Mint state in both ANACS and NGC's pop report. NGC recognizes them also. Anyway, enjoy! I'd encourage others to search for No F Buff's because they are still out there.

Kind of a big mistake, leaving designer's initial off the die.

Can I ask where you cherrypicked it from? What's the cert#?
Congrats! That’s an awesome cherrypick.
It was on each die when each one was produced by the master or working hub.
It just clashed to flat, or got ground off when repairing a few dies by someone who didn't prioritize it.
It was a raw pick. ANACS is very slow to update their pop reports! I noticed that today also! I just got it back today from ANACS.
anacs isn't the only one
Ron Pope's 2006 book lists these 20 as known, but few plate photos are of mint state coins.
So are you are looking for mint state coins to really be certain they are No F?

1916s are known for this too (although those are probably counterfeit):

Nice score
The F is incuse on the coin meaning then it is raised on the die - can be easily polished off if not being careful.

That's my goal. Probably or most likely unrealistic.
Patience and determination paid off. Congrats! Peace Roy

Here's my 1917. A high AU:
Congrats, Glad to see this overlooked variety getting some attention. Have a bunch of them. These are a few of my best.
Love the 20! That year has alluded me in high grade! Nice coins!
Nice looking Buffalo nickels. I bought a roll of mixed Buffalo nickels with v nickels and ran across a 1938 D Buffalo nickel with a misplaced mint mark. My plan is to send it into NGC and have it graded.
I suspect you're heading towards an expensive disappointment
Your 1919 2F also has the inside of the third feather abraided away. similar to the 1937-D 3-Leg, which is another PUP to use for verification of authenticity.
