This might look like a corroded and cleaned 1837 large cent……but it Sure made my day when as a sixth grader I found this beside the roots of a massive old tree at Batsto, on a class trip. This is a preserved iron making village from the 18/19th century in the NJ pine barrens. The teacher wanted me to turn it in NO WAY!!!

Eyeball find? Nice! Nice story. The first one I dug while detecting was also an 1837.

The very tops of the date numbers are there. The 7 is obvious. (Not that all this matters a hill of beans). I’m always amazed by a low grade Feuchtwanger cent, the alloy is Hatd, they were a weird token… how did this circulate soooo much?

I am not sure how you got 1837 out of that Large Cent, but, ok...

Really ruff, but it’s an 1800 DB half cent. I got it for the princely sum of 12 bucks. In hand, you could read the date- just barely.
