After nearly 7 years, I think it's time to move on.

Did the recipient have his mail forwarded? Did he initiate a package redirect? 🤔
The recipient said he never received the package.
My point was that based on the answers (which are unknowable at this point), this might have been a scam perpetrated by the buyer or even an unrelated third party.
Whatever happened, I'm not sure it's fair to hold this grudge and publicly air it since you did not file a formal claim or inquiry with the USPS at the time. They might have been able to sort it out back then.
If it "was not worth the trouble" to try to get an answer back when it happened then what makes it worth bringing it up now, or even carrying this incident around in your head all these years? 🤔
There is indeed a "lesson learned" in there somewhere but I'm not sure you learned the right one.
I had a package that was to be delivered while I was out of town. Because I didn't pick it up in time, it was sent back to the seller.
Different post office functions apparently look at different parts of the label/ or use different automated systems. It made at least three loops around the local distribution hubs - local major center, to local PO for delivery, local PO recognizes return to sender status, forwards to local minor sorting center, local minor sorting center forwarded it on to local major center.
One day it stopped looping (after I filed a trace request), and about a week later, it was finally returned to the auction house in CA. Who charged me a 2nd shipping fee (fair enough, they had to pay it) and it was delivered.

I got one like that now. Bought three sent priority two made it in 3 days the third went from sort facility in Chicago suburb to west Fargo ND back to my sort facility out to my PO then on to the next facility ?? Been two weeks. Only $120 item but I’ll do something before time expires no rush today.
Then there is the "dead letter" office in Atlanta where lots of packages have been separated from their addresses. I'll bet we could assemble a team of engineering minded folks to get people their lost packages.

Change the title and say 2018?
Why even posts it now it’s 2025 ?
Did not file a claim really should have held U.S.P.S responsible for service not recieved.
I had some teriyaki chicken bao for lunch today.

So what? What did you have for lunch each day for the month of October, 2018?

On October 9, 2018 I had German Chocolate cake from MilkBar. Unfortunately, that is where my records end.
I'm glad there is now a thread for some nice non-sequiturs. I love non-sequiturs.

I wonder what the record is for late mail?
This entry might be a sign of trouble:

Is this were it was supposed to go? ->2018-10-09 08:06, Kenvil NJ Available for Pickup
and sat there for a week before they started the return to sender process?
The longest documented mail delivery time is an astonishing 89 years, when a letter posted in 1919 was delivered in 2008
The recipient said he never received the package.
I thought the incident might be good for sharing even today but I might be wrong
I should have filed a claim just to bring it to USPS attention

Wtf?
I haven't bought anything at auction for over two weeks.

I will point out that the loop occurs today.

so what is the lesson? If you are going to be out of town for a week, put a hold on your PO Box?

This post makes me feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone.
