Which is better PCGS MS68 or PCGS MS67FS+ Nickel

Which is better PCGS MS68 or PCGS MS67FS+ Nickel. If you could pick one which would you choose. There are no MS67FS+ or MS68FS in the POP report.

    I would almost always be inclined to get the 67FS. This is especially true for years in the 50s and 60s where FS is almost impossible to find.

    I am a newer collector (started April 2020), and I primarily focus on U.S. Half Cents and Type Coins. Early copper is my favorite.

    So true @Catbert - we are talking numbers without talking about how the coins in question actually LOOK. And, that really is the most critical piece.... what is most attractive to the buyer!

    For every 100 Jefferson nickels PCGS has graded MS67 (FS) a single example is graded MS68.
    Without any other details, I'd go with the MS68

    Have to see the coin to answer. All things being "equal" I'd want the FS.

    For how many grade 67+FS how many graded 68? A lot less than 100 right?

    2023 D - I would pass on it entirely. You will have no problem putting this on your bingo card at any time. Wait for population increase and get a better deal.

    The D Jeffs are tough. I would get the 67+FS.

    Not too long ago, I sold an MS66 Hawaiian commem to buy an MS64+ Hawaiian that I liked better.

    Grades are just data points. I might like an MS63 that I can get for a great price more than a MS68 that is terribly overpriced. Depends on my goals at the time. If I’m building an all-FS set of nickels, the choice is obvious.

    Long way to say……. buy the coin, not the holder.

    Take the 68 all day long because you can always regrade to attain the FS designation later. It’s not as easy to upgrade the 67+ to the 68.

    I suspect that the odds of success on either type of regrade might depend upon the attributes of each coin. 😉 Many 67+ coins would likely be easier to upgrade to 68 than 68 non-step coins would be to upgrade to 68FS.

    I would take a FS coin over a 1 point higher grade coin every time and I do.

    If it don't have Full Steps I don't want it.

    For a registry contestant the difference in the score for a FS vs the next grade without could play a factor in such a decision.

    I'm not positive but I believe they grade the same point value. At least the coins that I have checked in the past did.

    Thanks, I've never done the registry for nickels, so I wasn't sure if that might matter.

    I would gladly take a PCGS 1960-D Jefferson MS65FS over one of the 9 graded MS67. ;)

    I was anticipating more of a vintage date… perhaps like a 1940-D which is simply a great Denver product where FS examples are available-just not sure how many have been graded at the 68 level.

    At that lofty level, I would prefer the half point deduction and the full step attribution.
