1909-S VDB Cent on ebay - Counterfeit and/or Harshly Cleaned?
To me, this coin “looks” counterfeit - the “S” looks funny but does appear to be close to one of the 4 positions, and has a semblance of the serifs on a genuine S. What do you think? Maybe die transfer from a genuine host coin?
Also, even if the coin were genuine, why is it bid up so high when a genuine PCGS XF45 can be had for roughly the same money?

Looks counterfeit to me . The reverse letters have an unnatural thick look to me. The S mintmark doesn’t have the correct configuration IMO. Lincoln’s portrait also seems out of proportion to me. Everything just looks wrong.

Fake.

Do you think is was die-struck or an added S?
Well, I tried reporting it. Let’s see if they at least have a human review it.
The mintmark’s definitely wrong but I still think the former.

Both.
Good point! Title edited.
Never got a response from ebay on my report, but, unfortunately, looks like the sale went through.
