Painful. Here's what you need to do:
1.) Take your friend out to Taco Bell as a thank you gesture.
2.) Take a few extra napkins and wrap the coins in them.
3.) Season with ghost pepper salsa.
4.) Bake on 400° for 30 minutes
5.) After you put out the fire, I guarantee they'll look even worse.
I like those counterstamped ones!
Yes, my friend was my very first platoon sergeant. He gave me these visiting well over 25 years ago. I just keep them as a keepsake from him. He played a solid role in my life. I knew these would require a second look for those who have old type coins that have had a rough life!

Get some "liver of sulfur" and darken the surfaces. It should help making these coins look more natural.
