Nice holiday card from ICG

I received this nice card with the ICG staff.
They hired a former PCGS grader, Austin Hutto as a grader/finalizer. Of course their operation is dwarfed by PCGS, NGC and Anacs.

I like the woman on the far left. For some reason it makes sense 🙄
Man at first I thought that guy was holding a goat!
My Collection of Old Holders
Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
Not meant as snark at all — but I don’t understand why one would send coins to them given their status in the marketplace.
Nice card nonetheless!
Price is one. Willingness to slab counterfeits is another.
I imagine the turnaround time is also far less.

Collector, occasional seller
Where is Skip? I don't see him,,,,,,,, is that him with the red and white striped sweater in the back row?
And sometimes you just need authentication and there is no real value added by the grade on the slab.
I strongly disagree; many of their certified coins are just as good and sometimes better than the top tier companies in the under $500 price range. People submit to them because the top tier companies are slow and expensive. Both of them have been bought out by hedge funds/private equity bent on cutting costs. "Buy the coin and not the holder" has been true for decades since grading services came about, first to circumvent the counterfeit problem. ICG and Anacs have real guarantees, and I've invoked the guarantee on grade with them more than once as I have with PCGS and NGC which take longer. I see them as useful especially in the under $500 range in coins. Once you get into major multi-thousand dollar coins, only PCGS and NGC and cac have real marketability. If you have a good picture with the certification you have a much better idea of the value than with a raw coin.
I don't have any ICG-slabbed coins, but I like the look of their slabs. Are the curvy indents on the sides of the slab an ergonomic thing, or do they serve some other purpose?
LOLOL.....I thought the same thing. Nice card!
Your hobby is supposed to be your therapy, not the reason you need it.
When one of you guys get your Christmas card from PCGS, could you please post a pic. Thanks.

To me, the guy in the stripes looks more like Mark.
Austin Hutto was on whatnot a few weeks ago, just chatting with folks in the stream. I believe the question posed was, "Are you planning on changing the ICG holder?" His answer was something to the effect of, "If you had to grab as many coins out of as many boxes as I/we do, you would appreciate the indentation of the ICG holder (it makes grabbing the coin out a full box of 20 much easier)." I believe ICGS holders have always had the "curvy indents" (back to the original green insert holders, way before Mr. Hutto arrived); I guess he likes the feature.
By the way, his overall message was simple: "We want to accurately grade your coins at reasonable prices and get them back to you in two weeks."
By the way 2, Skip's picture is on their website, I think he's the guy to the right and behind Austin.
By the way 3, he indicated ICG was "soon to roll out" a Price Guide. I checked their website, they have a pop report, but I did not see a Price Guide.
By the way 4, he kept referring to the new ICG slabs as "the white slab/insert." I only have one, it looks grey to me ....
No more btw's. : )
If we were all the same, the world would be an incredibly boring place.

They changed the holder about the time they hired Austin and when Randy retired. Skip is doing attributions now.
I have a few ICG graded coins, and prefer the look of the old green holders. Why is change so damn uncomfortable?
Well then,,,,, is the guy in the red plaid shirt Skip? I don't see any other possibilities.
Assuming Skip is in the photo, that would be my guess.
All I want for Christmas is quality Trueview photos. Maybe if Mariah Carey sings it my wish will come true!
I use them regularly; guess that's why I received a card as well...
Neat - I like my ICG coins too.
