Capped bust, small eagle reverse. Tied for second finest known. IMO it takes tremendous intestinal fortitude to list such a treasure with an opening bid of $1.

I disagree. I’ve seen a multitude of seven-figure coins sold at no reserve with starting bids of $1. And while it’s certainly possible that one or more sold at “bargain” prices, off the top of my head, I don’t recall any. And even if there were some, it wouldn’t have been attributable to opening bids of $1.

Wow. That coin looks beautiful from a luster perspective. It has a patch of unusual scratches on the reverse that do not seem natural. Small issue but when buying a million dollar coin...

The $1 start bid is THE way to go when it comes to big-time coins. It’s all about attracting buyers and making them really think about maybe getting to buy it. The emotional investment only drives the prices higher

Above the C and the I on the reverse. The scratches almost criss-cross. I know I am being picky but it is in a 65 holder and it is a very expensive coin.
I bid single digits on proof gold all the time. So far, no dice.

I happen to be a new big fan of Dan of Peak Raritie as soon as he decided to become a dealer. He has an incredible eye for gold coins. I constantly seek his opinion. He reminds me of a young JA back in the 1980’s. I have always felt that grading was and still is a matter of teamwork.
