Is Slab Collecting No Longer a Thing?

djmdjm Posts: 1,563 ✭✭✭✭✭

I found this Scare PCGS Gen 2,2 which were only used by PCGS in December 1989 and January 1990. The coin is not even bid to the selling price of a newly slabbed coin. The coin is linked below. Any explanations?

I have never seen a very high premium for PCGS 2.1 or 2.2's.

I prefer the 2.1 that doesn’t say PCGS on the front. It’s more unique. The 2.1 commands a small premium, but they are not highly recognized, yet, although I feel they will be more so, in the future. Still a lot of time to go in that auction, as others have stated. They are getting tougher to find. I only have three of them.

I believe we went right past slabs to the collecting of silly little stickers. #CRZY RGDS!

Thanks, I did add the caveat of “right mind”.

Haven't seen a slab thread in a while!

I always like the PCGS Doily slabs and NGC black. PCGS Regency is nice too.

Slab collecting is most definitely still a "thing", right now it seems that rattlers are very much in demand on the old holders FB group.

It never was for me. Was astounded at the rattler craze. I hated the way they rotated in holder.

I threw in a low bid just to look further. It does not look like a nice coin for the assigned grade.

@djm did you end up buying it? Seems to have sold for a somewhat low price.
