If you are looking for cheap but still readily recognized, anacs seems like a much better option. Segs greatly over grades almost everything and I've found many cleaned and damaged coins in those holders. They only detail the most extreme damage, but 90% of what others would call damaged they straight grade.

SEGS attributes a far wider range of obscure coins than does ANACS - or at least they used to. And again, I really do not care about "grade" with regard to the items I want to have attributed and encapsulated. In fact, one question I will pose is whether they can merely state "genuine" and not grade my items at all.

Yes, I noticed that as well John. I just can't figure it out. It's like a ghost company. There's a website, e-mail address and phone number. There's a voice on the other end of the phone saying this is SEGS, please leave a message....but no one returns calls. Plus no response from e-mails. Their address is a P.O. According to their website, their events have been suspended due to COVID-19. Combine no major show presence with no response to e-mails or phone calls and one needs to ask what there is to gain by sending them any coins even before considering the alternatives.

Lol. No. I think many of the second tier know they aren't good at it but they are hoping the customers don't notice.
I question this. IMO, ANACS, ICG, and SEGS (?) are second tier services right? So what you are writing is that those three services KNOW THEY ARE NOT COOD AT ATTRIBUTING COINS.
While I'm not attacking you personally, I think the evidence on this forum and in the market shows this comment is a laughable bunch of ignorant baloney. In your experience, how many coins have you sent to a second tier service that have been misattributed? Otherwise, this type of libel from a five star (experienced? dealer?) is exactly one of the contributing reasons ANACS coins bring less money than the three top TPGS.
There are only three outcomes to coin attribution: correct, incorrect, and undetermined. Given the right tools and no time limit, any living fool can attribute a coin if its condition allows. I'll put Jay Turner, Mike Fazzari, J. P. Martin, or all those long-time, well-known professionals I've left out up against anyone who believes as you seem to.

I didn't even know they imaged over there. And remember were talking moderns here but regardless I don't think CGS realizes just how important an image is pun intended.
What is the whole or main purpose of a set registry? If not to showoff and exhibit your favorite coins digitally. In the modern world where rarity is rare you only have two things going for you, grade or eye appeal. And in many cases only eye appeal.
So if you don't have the grade or the eye appeal you have nothing. Sure the coin still exists but try selling it.
My images and then theirs. I'm too embarrassed to show the others they're washed out and downright ridiculous.
SEGS slabs are very easy to open. Stand it on the long edge on a concrete floor and whack it with a hammer a few times (not gently). You'll hear a "pop", then it opens like a book. If you try a pliers or tile nippers, you'll just make a mess out of it.

I live on the coast in NJ and Cherry Hill is near Philly, so too far to go to their headquarters to check if they still reside at address listed on website. Not promising they still have Covid disclaimer on website.

These are rare and very obscure Asian world coins. I have had success posting some and getting very few responses, but I'd like to "KNOW" correct attribution.
I don’t think there’s any argument that would convince me that a SEGS submission would be anything other than a waste of money.
Are these varieties that you could get attributed by @messydesk with VSS stickers? Even if they attribute the coins correctly, would anyone trust it or pay more than if it were raw? For me, there’s no difference between SEGS, or a self-slab you bought on Amazon and wrote the variety on the insert.

@OAKSTAR

A guy in my coin club sends stuff to NTC.
I didn't know that they were still in business.

I mentioned that it still has a website up above. But seriously, who sends stuff to them?
