Are these chopmarks on this Flying Eagle Cent? or just damage?

Going through some odds and ends that I have accumulated, sell or what ever. This 1858 has markings on the obverse, that remind me of chopmarks. But I am clueless on why someone felt the need to chopmark a copper coin? So perhaps just damage... what do you think?

This is the secret language of an Australian aboriginal tribe that felt honored by the United States' representation of a wedge-tailed Eagle. The writing reads "damaged coin." ;)

Many thanks for the input! Figured it was damage myself... but never hurts to get a second opinion.

Even if it were chop marks, my personal opinion is chop marks are damage.

I mean you're not wrong but they are historically correlated with specific circulation. More analogous with wear in the collectible context. Not as made but as intended.
