Pointed 9 dimes.

While I know they are not considered anything special, thought it was kind of neat to have a set of all 3.

Cool, Russ used to talk about this variety a lot back in the day. Supposedly most or all of the proof sets that had Accent Hair Kennedy’s also contained dimes with the pointed 9s

Yep. I found two proof sets with accented hair previously and both had the pointed 9. I just wasn't aware that there were pointed 9s for the business strikes.

Cool. Didn’t know they existed. I’ll have to check for them now.

I was collecting back then, and for the life of me I never could get excited by them. Different strokes for different folks, I guess

Wish the series had more of a following. Cool coins!

I had heard of them, but never even looked for them. How common are they?

Were there also some Roosevelt dimes varieties that had a raised 'dot' somewhere around the date and 'IN GOD TRUST'?

14 years old and a collector at that time in 1964.

I remember looking for pointed tail 9’s and blunt tail 9’s -
And finding enough of each that I realized they weren’t that scarce
…. not sure, but I think the pointed tail 9’s were supposed to be the scarcer pieces.

The ads in CoinWorld and Numismatics news promoting them lasted maybe six months or so.

I either spent them or sold them for common silver a few years later.

In the many decades after, I don’t think I ever had a single customer or anyone at my table at a coin show
    ask about them.

I took a quick look through the DDO varieties listed on VarietyVista for 1964 and 1964-D. Of the five 1964 varieties, one is a pointed 9 (ODV-010) and four are the blunt 9 (ODV-011). Of the four 1964-D varieties, all are blunt 9. While 9 die pairs is not a very thorough study of the subject, but I would guess that significantly less than half are the pointed 9, but not few enough to make it worthy of much of a premium. The CPG is silent on these.

Does NGC automatically add this variety, or was it paid for to be included in the grading?
