Jose Canseco Private Signing (Cards mailed back out to everyone on 1/22)

Anyone interested in participating in a Jose Canseco private signing?

Cards will be signed in BLUE sharpie.

Only $15 per card.
Inscriptions are $10 (AL MVP 1988, 40/40, 6X All-Star or AL ROY 1986)

If I can get a minimum of at least 30 cards, I will move forward with this.

He has lots of cards to choose from including the iconic 1986 Donruss Rated Rookie.

Let me know by saying how many you would want to get done. Even if you just want to do 1, that's fine too, just post it below. Once OR if we get to 30 cards, I may close it or keep it open a little longer to pick up and stragglers.

I have done signing with him in the past on here and never an issue. You just mail them to me (along with return postage) and I will handle everything else. Just a heads up - this will be mailed directly to him; he will sign them and send them back to be and I will get them back to everyone.

Thanks,
Marc

that is a great price. Jose just had a public signing up in my neck of the woods. sigs were $30 for that one. I did get to meet him/take photos though. that is worth something

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

Considering that today's superstars like go for at least $80+, yeah, Canseco is still at a great price. $30 for an auto and a photo is as good as it gets. He was one of MLB's rockstars in the late 80's and early to mid 90's. Regardless of his antics, he is still a name in the baseball community and always will be.

What did you get signed? Can you share it?

back in 1991 my father got me an 86 donruss RR for christmas. He was my favorite player then and it was by FAR my best card at the time and I loved it. he paid a little over $100 for it back then. Well, Dad is gone now, but I still have my Christmas present from 1991 so I had Jose sign it for me. he inscribed "Merry Christmas" on it as well. It was a fantastic moment for me. Jose was very friendly and generous with his time. I think he liked the story and also told me that "your dad got ripped off!" I disagree on that one though. It may only be a 10 dollar card now, but I have gotten way more than a hundred bucks worth of enjoyment out of that card over the last 33 years.

he also signed a ball, but no big story behind that one!

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

    Hi Marc,

I'll be in for at least 2. I'll see if I have more that I want signed.

    Thanks!

A more than reasonable price for a premier player from the
    80's and 90's.

I'd be in for at least 3 for now. I just gotta figure out what I have and want signed. Thanks.

Thanks. Now we are up to 10 cards. Trying to at least hit 30 before collecting from everyone. Turnaround time should be 2-4 weeks. Depends on his schedule at the time I send them to him but honestly, under two weeks (from date of signing) is very possible.

I don’t collect autographs, but I just wanted to say Jose Canseco, FOR ME, IMO, is on the same cultural relevancy as Bo Jackson and Ken Griffey Jr. as 45 year old man, those are the athletes I marveled at as a kid, and Canseco coming clean like he did just makes him more unique. He was a superstar. I only see people coming around even more to his culturally relevance the older they get. A baseball player doesn’t need to be a HOFer to be relevant IMO.

  • VagabondVagabond Posts: 610 ✭✭✭✭✭

Keeping this open a bit longer. Seeing if we can hit 30.

    Only $15 a card.

    Hey Marc,

I think I'm going to have 7, but still going through stuff. Thanks!

    Thanks for the update Aaron.

I believe that brings the total up to 15 cards.

Looking for 15 more so we hit the 30 card mark. Let me know if you wanna partake and I'll get this done for us.

Looking at eBay sold prices, his card prices are reflecting his popularity when compared to a decade ago, IMO.

  • @Vagabond hello, when do you think you'll need cards by? I'd be in for 1, possibly 2, if time allows.
    Thanks.

  • VagabondVagabond Posts: 610 ✭✭✭✭✭

No rush. Just as soon as we can hit that 30 mark. your 1 or 2 would bring our total up to 17 cards out of the minimum of 30.

    I would like two. Thanks!

That brings our total to 19 out of 30. Once we hit our 30, we can get this thing moving quickly.

10 more cards until we can move forward. Who else wants to get some of their Canseco cards signed.

  • I just saw this post wondering if you have sent the cards away yet? I would love to get my Rated Rookie signed.

  • VagabondVagabond Posts: 610 ✭✭✭✭✭

I haven't closed this yet. Surprised we haven't hit 30 yet. Your 1 would now put us at 21.

Bump to get a few more in.

  • I’ll take 2

  • VagabondVagabond Posts: 610 ✭✭✭✭✭

Lets get this done. Oakland A's HOF player right here. $15 per card. That is CHEAP

  • Is this still happening? I’ve got a 88 topps leaders card signed by McGwire and would love to get Canseco to sign it.

Yeah, there is no rush. You can partake and wait or pay a company 5x the amount. That 88 card is nice though. I''m considering the Tiffany version

Still happening. But waiting on gathering at least a total of 30 cards to send to him.

You're lucky you have that one signed by McGwire - unless he's changed his tune lately, he has refused to sign anything with Jose on it after the Juiced book and congressional inquiry. Nice card!

  • I’ll probably end up with 2-3 cards.

Thaks for everyone who has responded, and is getting their cards/packages out to me this week. The deadline to get them to me is by Friday, November 15th.

If you wrote here that you are participating, I have already sent you a message with instructions.

For anyone else who wants to get in on this, make sure to reach out to me directly so we can get your cards signed as well.

  • VagabondVagabond Posts: 610 ✭✭✭✭✭

Bumping for a friendly reminder to get these in the mail already for those who are participating if you have not done so yet. For those who have, thank you.

  • VagabondVagabond Posts: 610 ✭✭✭✭✭

If you have sent your cards but have not paid yet, please go ahead and make payment. I have everything ready, just waiting on payment from two more board members.

  • VagabondVagabond Posts: 610 ✭✭✭✭✭

Just waiting on payment from one more board member and then we are good to go. I’ve sent them a few messages but it looks like they haven’t logged on in some days. I’ll give it a couple of more days but if I don’t hear back soon, we will still move forward with getting our items signed to avoid any further delay.

    Thanks for your patience ya’ll.

Thanks and you’re welcome. I’m not making $1 off of this for inquiring minds. I am however getting some cards signed free for my efforts in putting this together.

Jose is scheduled to receive our items on Wednesday. Hopefully we get them back by mid next week (Thursday is a holiday). Once I get them back, I will take a group photo of our cards together so that everyone who participated can see their items, and I will start mailing back asap to all who sent in.

  • VagabondVagabond Posts: 610 ✭✭✭✭✭

Cards were supposed to be delivered on Wednesday but then got delayed by USPS. They were however, delivered yesterday (Friday 11/29). Jose is out of town for a few days for Thanksgiving but he should be back by Sunday/Monday and then we can expect movement to happen shortly after. I'll let everyone know once they are back in route to me or in my hands.

Hope ya'll had a good Thanksgiving.

Quick update. Looks like the check that I included in our package was just cashed so it looks like he is back home. So far, I haven't seen an update on the return label (tracking) but I am checking every day. If I don't see any movement within 1 week from today, I'll reach out to him to follow up. But otherwise, I am expecting our items to head back my way some day in the following week. Just wanted to keep everyone in the loop.
