1881 $5 Half Eagle, FS-304 RPD newp

Thought I'd share a pretty cool new variety just added to my to type set. The 1881 Half eagles have some very nice re-punched dates. This variety, FS-304, is the most dramatic. I finally got around to taking some pics with my new microscope camera. Enjoy!

Yes, they must have had a trainee in the die making shop. There is also a three cent nickel with a strongly repunched date.

My first gold coin was the 1881/0 5$. Looking at the mintage you can tell they were cranking them out with lots and lots of dies used

Great coin, I really need to get one of those coin microscopes! My friend has one and was showing me and I think I would have a lot of fun with one of those…

Love the variety. Came across one while helping a LCS a few years ago but didn't recognize the variety was there until after the coin was sold and I was reviewing my photos.
