There is just something about the year 1861, anybody else agree

The first year of the Civil War 1861 has always been a popular year for coin collectors since most have an interest in history. Nice coin by the way.
Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

Here’s my only coin with that date:

When I think of 1861 I get locked in on Seated Half dollars. If you look through a Redbook you quickly realize that 1860 was really the last year that the New Orleans mint operated at full force. To the best of my knowledge the New Orleans Mint only managed to produce Seated halves but what a story.
You have so many different authorities minting coins. Is there any other year and denomination to match 1861 in New Orleans? I am only fortunate enough to own 1 1861-0
half but I know someone could spend years just trying to find all the varieties from that year. Throw in that the Confederates tried to issue an original coin and restrikes were made later and you have one of the most interesting stories in American numismatics.
One of those things that make me wonder if it would foul things up if I were a rich man. James

First year of the Civil War. Although I like seated coinage; I have never collected half dimes. But, when I saw this one, I knew I had to have it.

This one is not a D Carr piece as it has a reeded edge.

Looks like there's room for an eagle from this very significant year:
Absolutely agree that year 1861 in US numismatics is very interesting, the coinage is beautiful, and it's a very historic time in US.

Yes, I agree. Something about 1861
Proof 65 in NGC. Sold to Brian Greer, along with a few good coins, over the years
Finally purchased a CSA restrike this year. Nice strike and toning.
This one's actually mine. It's part of my Prime Number Set.

Don't forget the 1861-O $20's.
A counterfeit just for fun.
Nobody's posted their Clark, Gruber & Co. 1861 set or their 61-C $5 or 61-D $1 and $5 yet?

Not the highest graded example by a long shot, but it sports a green bean and it completes my Dahlonega five set.
Twenty-one out of twenty-four are beaned, with much upgrading to do for sure. Thanks for looking.

I think it’s great that you’re choosing coins for your collection that merit CAC stickers!

Gorgeous coin! When I read/hear the year ‘1861’, I think about NOLA’s HD & DE, Dahlonega’s HE (like the lovely example that @pogonip shared), and of course, Charlotte’s lone representative…
Here's a rather unexciting 1861-P half that PCGS just posted grades for.

I agree. One of the reason's I purchased this piece is the year.
