So to celebrate, here’s a quick giveaway.

To enter, all you have to do is pick your preferred prize out of the giveaway gallery linked below, AND state what made you choose that particular lot. That’s all. No strings attached (except your promise to post a confirmation here after you receive the goods). Free worldwide shipping. Random drawing on or shortly after October 1st, 2024.

    Note that one of the new lots (still not yet photographed as of this post) contains a Morgan AND a Peace dollar! But the silver dollars in that 2-coin lot are not as nice as the ones in the individual 1-coin lots.

    Two reasons. I’m starting a us type set. But this is the year Samual Morse sent the first telegram, as an amateur radio operator, that’s a fun connection to history.

    That one looks a little bit better than the wretched photos of it indicate.

    But it’s an 1838, not 1836.

    (There is an 1836 dime, though. If you end up winning, you may always change your choice.)

    Also, wasn’t Morse’s telegraph message in 1844?

    Thanks for a chance. The 1793 half real would be a cool addition to my collection if I am the lucky one. Long ago I had some of these types of coins. Somewhere along the way I must have sold or traded them off, but wish I had kept them along with the Pillar dollars I also had.

    @dsessom- I’m glad to see that German coin finally get a little love. You’re the first person who’s picked it in any of the giveaways (though I haven’t had it that long).

    I really like seeing what people choose, why is why I require they pick something up front. But they’re always welcome to change their mind later, if they win the drawing.

    Then you should pick the other lot that has 2 silver dollars (one Morgan, one Peace). The 1935 Peace dollar in the 2-coin lot is well worn and obviously already saw service as a pocket piece (and then you’d also have a 1921-S Morgan too).

    The 1924 Peace dollar in that individual lot strikes me as too nice to use as a pocket piece. But if that’s the one you like, who am I to suggest what you do with it, right? ;)

    The Morgans are the most iconic U.S. Coin in my opinion and it will fit in nicely with my silver hoard

    1919 Canada bronze large cent

    Being this generous giveaway has such an eclectic gallery of coins, I made my choice based on personal appeal, not precious metal value - My mother was Canadian, the coin is BU and it's over 100 years old, it's graded, it's bronze, and my dog likes it.

    I really admire a lot of the beautiful artwork on German coins and currency. The Bundesadler (Imperial eagle) on German coins is what always grabs my attention. The style to me is just mesmerizing.

    A solid choice. With a Krause value of $140 in MS64, that’s one of the more monetarily valuable lots in the present selection, too. But I like your sentimental reasons for picking it. It is a nice coin, and my darkish cellphone photos of it are horrible.

    The Spain: 1793-S CN silver half-real of Charles IV (PCGS AU details) Lacquer coin.

    Why? First because it is from 1793 which is a great year for coinage. Second because I don’t have a lacquer coin for teaching purposes!

    Thankfully we here in Georgia’s Golden Isles only caught the outer edge of the storm, but that was plenty bad enough. While things are now gradually getting back to normal in my neighborhood and at my job (power and water restored- yay!), that is not yet the case for all of Glynn County. Even our “near miss” was bad, and caused quite a bit of damage.

    Yep, Helene was nasty. No doubt about it. My old hometown of Swannanoa, NC has been wiped out.
