Dayum! That’s NUTS! 🤩😮
Been there, done that, almost-
I got my 1914-D (which later graded straight XF40) in a bulk Wheatie lot in 2006. So I paid less than a nickel for it, plus slab fees.
… but to get one in the wild like that, 110 years after it was struck... wow.
Please tell me your friend's initials are M.S.

Wow - Fantastic. I guess it does payoff to check one’s change!
Just wow!
Terrific… the best finds are made when you least expect it. This kills my find of a 1926-s Lincoln 48 years ago.

Well, dang, that's a score! Congrats to your friend.
Congratulations to your friend!
Of course, on the flip side, either someone's collection got stolen or someone inherited something they had no knowledge about.

Nice find! A date that's always in demand!

I told him that very thing, that this was probably grandpa’s coin collection and the grandkid either inherited or just swiped it and spent it as a literal penny.
Actually, not really funny kind of sad.

I think my friend will sell it eventually, but if that had been me finding it and then just only having grading costs, I would totally keep it as a trophy!

Incredible! A key found in change and it straight graded.
Great find - congrats!

Great find! I feel comforted that my collection is immune to being spent by grandchildren.
I'd have gone back there and gotten the rest of the keys from that dumped collection.
But they are long gone now.

Wonder if it could be from a "Coin Drop" that dealers do during the ANA's National Coin Week.
Nice score!

That F15 has beautiful a brown color to it👍👍

Great find.
well, you don't get this everyday. amazing!!!
I am a newer collector (started April 2020), and I primarily focus on U.S. Half Cents and Type Coins. Early copper is my favorite.
Last month I found a 1928 D penny in pocket change.
ya gotta love it, congrats
Sad to say, but yep, somebody's kid "borrowed" from their parents' collection and most likely got a nice lollipop for it.

I will take a glass half full view of this and propose it could have been part of a coin drop for a show in the region.

Thanks everybody for the comments! I agree, it was one heck of a find! I’m happy for my friend.

Wow. 😊
Maybe if your friend is feeling super lucky they will find a Bechtler.
What an amazing and outstanding find.
About two months ago I saw just a few coins in the Wally World grocery coinstar return. My heart skipped a beat in the millisecond I saw 1955. Nope, immediately saw the D. Nice to know some folks are still finding and most of all RECOGNIZING what they have!
Having fun while switching things up and focusing on a next level PCGS slabbed 1950+ type set, while still looking for great examples for the 7070.
Oldest coin in circ. I found of late is a 56-d nickel.
Someone dumped grandpas blue Whitman’s.
Recently found a nice 1920 Lincoln cent in a “need a penny” cup at Sam’s Club. I left a quarter for it! 😉
You gotta check the Coinstar machine for those.
I wonder if this coin was "seeded" by a local dealer to spark interest in the hobby. I recall someone doing this in CA... Long Beach, perhaps??
I've gotten 19-teens dated Lincoln Cents from circulation but they've all been pretty smooth... AG coins... that really look like they've been in circulation for 110 years. I've also "seeded" some of these... as well as dateless Buffalo Nickels and Merc Dimes (when silver was cheap!)... in the past. I was hoping that someone would find the IHC I released and post it here...
