There is no possible way during the striking of the coin that it could show both a 5 and a 3.
    It is just PMD.

Yes it is a possibility in some cases. Although, not in your case as I can only see a five in the last space.
Show us a 3 up against your questionable 5, and I'll show you my photo of why something like this is possible.
    Cool.

Again i see a 5 over 3. I am unexperienced but started collecting coins about 6yrs ago. I have so many coins that i enjoy looking at. Just like this one. The last 2 pics are screenshots of other coins. One has a 7 over 3. D difference is they are shaped differently so u can see it clearly. The other is of a nickle to show how both 3's look alike. Again... unexperienced but would like to learn.

Your nickel is so beat up the obvious explanation is that it is damage. Hits to the coin move metal.

    Sorry, not an error.

Offhand it looks like 1995D to me. But you can get a 95 and a 93 and compare to yours.

    Yes ;)

And it is easy to see why you think there is a 3 there, but it's just PMD.

@emeraldATV urs is a 1983. Thatbi can tell. On mine i see the full 5 and the full 3. It makes it harder because they both have the same curve at the bottom. I will gather pics and proof that i am correct. I know that errors are usually called on already but hey u never know. And i know!! Lol. Anyways... it is what it is ima pass it on to my kids so they can share with there kids. Maybe by then my nickel will be proven to be a 1st. Lol. Thanxx i appreciate the feed back and the pics. Always good to learn a thing o 2.

I've found that you must show both fonts of both numbers, same fonts are very important. Shadows will also guide you with in reason. Can't hurt to save it, right. Don't forget written details.
    Here's one more.

You are seeing what you want to see and it's simply not what you think it is.

If you want to insist you are right, it would seem you like to learn things the hard way. :/

Even IF it was what you think it is it's too damaged to be attributed as such.
A second example would be needed to confirm.

I think your kids are in for a big disappointment when they see you left them a road rash nickel. :/

Disappointment? I asked if it was wht i think it is for myself not intended thinking i was going to 💰🪙 off of it. If so i would be listing my 1964Silver quarter and 1964 silver dime or a couple of very nice seeked wheat pennies that i hold on to. Like i said i collect them because the ones i keep i can spend hrs cleaning them looking at tgem wondering how they became what they are and how they must of gotten to me. But thank u i do appreciate ur honesty. May seem alil mean but i get it. No worries 😁

I started collecting stamps also. A very vintage collection of stamped letters from tge early 1930's happen to have fallen into my hands. Read into the history and fell inlove with the stories.

It's easy to see why you think there is a 3 there. ;)

You can also see the 5. ;)

Look at the center bar of the 3, yours is too long to be a 3.

    Compare here. ;)

The next problem you have is how would this happen?
Did a 1993 nickel just happen to fall perfectly on the dies in 1995 to exactly overstrike the last digit?
Or did a 1995 nickel travel back in time to 1993 to get struck over?
Did the mint somehow accidentally use a 3 from 2 years prior when making the dies?
Did the mint decide to reuse the 1993 die to make a 1995 die?

The odds of any of these possibilities happening is astronomically high!

Now look at the odds of a coin with massive post mint damage looking like something unusual.

Occam's razor is a principle that says that if you have two competing ideas to explain the same phenomenon, you should prefer the simpler one.

Your coin took a hit that pushed the metal of the vertical bar of the 5 over to look like a 3. ;)

@IkesT Let's not throw gas on the fire. ;)

Here on the Q&A forum I try to tone it down a bit and help newer collectors that may be having a harder time learning. :)

Once they get combative and start with the name calling and cussing, all bets are off and it's fair game to put them in their place. :p>:)
