OK, let’s see your 1893-S Morgan Dollar
I’ve never really been a huge fan of many of the popular U.S. ‘key dates’, i.e. 16-D Mercs, 1909-S VDB cents, etc. Nothing wrong with these coins at all, but I’ve never had a burning desire to own one.
That said, the one key date coin I’d love to own is the 1893-S Morgan dollar. This one has always fascinated me. I’ll be picking one up as some point, probably VG8 or less. I’ve seen a few super original PCGS examples at shows that I almost pulled the trigger on. There’s just a cool factor about these workhorses, even though I’ve never been a serious dollar collector.
If you have one, please post it. I’d love to see them!

This was a bucket list coin for me for a long long time. It's low grade and pales in comparison to others on the forum but to me, IMHO, she's perfect. I feel privileged to still claim custodianship of it.

@Cladiator That VG10 is a gem for the grade. It's a nice thing to have a key date coin that looks great. The first coin a collector checks out blows them away. Nice find!

The surfaces are original and the patina natural without the typical slide markings and digs/dings and shininess of a slot coin.1 -

It's also possible that it never entered a casino at all, and just happened to end up at a Las Vegas bank when they were being put in the vault.

From an NGC G4 holder, now in Dansco. Don't think I photo'ed in slab as I was so excited getting coin I wanted that I couldn't wait to fill that last hole in the album. Kept the label. Looks original, nice brown color and no distracting hits. Goes well with the other 93 set in album.

I heard several years ago that one guy had accumulated over 600 1893-S Morgan Dollars.

I have read that most of the surviving mintage are VF. Anyone have any thoughts on why that might be?

After viewing this thread, I started looking around to see what's out there for sale, and saw a very nice F12 CAC specimen. Upon zooming in on the obverse photo, I saw a fingerprint. I don't know if if I could live with that or not. Lol!

Sorry for bad pictures.I would argue with the language used since i would interpret "the majority of known pieces" to mean more than 50% of the known pieces. However, if you consider the PCGS + NGC pops combined to be representative of the survivors, coins in the 4 VF grades combined are the largest group by a slight margin.
