    It's probably just worn down or "spooned". Need pictures.

    99.7% chance that it's simply a worn or damaged coin.
    0.3% chance that it's a broadstrike, or some other actual mint error that might create a smooth edge on a normally reeded coin.

    We would need pictures to confirm, but be aware your chances are not great.

    very worn or broadstruck out of collar (would usually be larger in diameter than other dimes)

    Almost certainly worn down or purposely damaged. I have gone through over a hundred thousand dimes and have never seen a single broadstrike, clip, or any other actual mint error.

    Even with pics of a dime with no reeding, you can't be sure of the cause. Most likely it's a dryer coin but in any event, it's PMD or post mintage damage that's only worth face value unless it's on eBay.

    If a coin has no reeding because it was broadstruck outside of the collar, then that would be a legitimate error.

    Of course, the OP didn't mention that it was oversized.
