Hi guys,
Today, while at a pretty good size Local Show. I browsed the floor to search, not only the usual cherry pick items. But for something more unusual.
Well, I seemed to find it.
NGC came out with this idea of inserting a piece of the actual money bag which carried these Historical Amercana coins!
The World renown Buffalo Nickel!
Here's the short story explanation.

The mint mark has the, "D over D".
Extra Premium!
I cherrypicked it at the 1938D price.
The variety has a $300 bonus to the value!

    Joey, I'm not sure where you got that "$300 bonus to the value" figure but in reality, it's highly inaccurate.
    Below are auction results for three different MS67 1938-D/D examples. So unless the regular 1938-D is essentially worthless, there's not a $300 premium for the D/D.
    NGC MS67 $324 in March
    NGC MS67 $307 in March
    PCGS MS67 $288 in February

    That said, it's still a very cool item.

    I never would have thought sports card collecting would drive the coin industry as much as it has, i.e autographs, Vaultbox, and now "game used" relics. But here we are.

    Buy the coin, not the slab. In my opinion, just another gimmick.

    I can see where some people will call this a gimmick, I understand that sentiment, but personally I think it's pretty cool. I have a similar item but with a silver dollar.

    Exactly. A coin has at least face value and is spendable. Sports cards not so much. Try buying a loaf of bread with a common sports card.

    The bag fragment is a marketing gimmick designed to increase interest in what is essentially a very common mint state coin. I personally don't think the coin is well enough struck to merit the assigned grade of MS67.

    The price premium for game used makes sense for sport items but the container that the coin was once in? All 1938D nickels were in bags at some point. Not all sports collectibles were game used (or space collectibles actually "flown"), but the ones that were are worth more. They are more desirable. This nickel is no more desirable than any other MS67 that also has been in a bag, so does the bag piece make it worth more? Maybe a little as it adds a little interest, but not much and only for some people. Kinda neat, but a bit of a gimmick too, in my opinion. I don't see similar premiums to "game used" or "flown".

    Collector and dealer in obsolete currency. Always buying all obsolete bank notes and scrip.
