US Mint and Major Coin Shows
The latest weekly issue of Coin World announced that the Mint would be releasing the 2024 Proof Morgan and Peace Dollars at its new show in Tampa in September. I then checked the Mint's release schedule to see what they would be releasing at the ANA show in August, and found nothing, which seemed more than a little surprising to me.
This caused me to check out the ANA's website to see if they posted which mints would be setting up at the show. They have, on an interactive show floor plan. Maybe I'm missing something, but the US Mint is nowhere to be found, and what looks like would be their usual booth space is still available, less than 2 months before the show.
Doesn't seem like a simple omission, given how many other mints are confirmed. Assuming the Mint just takes its time firming up commitments, that also seems unlikely given its commitment to Coin World in September.
I figure there must be a story here if the US Mint is skipping the annual main event conducted by the only Congressionally chartered nonprofit devoted to all things numismatic. I also figure that if anyone knew what was up, it would be one of the many experts that frequent this forum. So, what's going on? 😀

I also noticed that they are missing.
FWIW, the current convention e-newsletter indicates that the U.S. Mint will be attending.

The Mint had a nice display and nicer people at the show in Tulsa a couple weeks ago.

Thanks! I'd shocked if they didn't actually show up, given that they usually do and that they go to other major shows, such as FUN, and shows that aspire to be major shows, such as the Great American show in Tampa. The two empty large booths on the floor plan look like they are custom made for them.
And yet, as I said, the Mint is not publicly assigned that space, while all the world mint slots have been assigned, and there is only 6 weeks to showtime. I'm also more than a little surprised that, if they do show up, it's going to be the San Francisco proof ASE, with no mintage limit, that gets released, rather than something more desirable, such as a flavor of the Morgan and Peace dollars, like last year, or, even better the Flowing Hair gold and silver products.
Would have created a bit of a buzz. The fact that they are not doing it, plus, as I said, Coin World's announcement for September, led me to believe something might be up. But, if they are publicizing it in a newsletter, it's more likely than not that they just don't have a contract signed yet, and they will in fact be there.
They always do, when they make the trip. It's the same group of people, out of HQ in DC, that staff all the shows. They always have the nicest setup because, after all, they are the single most profitable enterprise in the space, so they have a little money to spend in order to impress.
Sounds like a MONopoly to me and if I add any more it won't be numismatic, sooooooo
Yes!
Big Show coming.
The ANA in Chicago, actually in Rosemont.
Can't wait.
❤💥💫👍💯😎😛
Can you tell I enjoy this Show?
😆

--- If it should happen I die and leave this world and you want to remember me. Please only remember my opening Sig Line. You are probably right; they likely have something 'bigger' planned.
The PR M&P dollars being released at the new GACC show are still listed as "Fall 2024" on the release schedule. Ditto for the "flowing hair" releases.
Coincidentally, the finest known 1794 Flowing Hair dollar will be on display at WFM. A 230th anniversary 'release/debut' would make a nice tie in.

Edited to add the word "debut".
Great show there, Mint or no Mint.
We can hope. Coin World announced the proof Morgan and Peace in its latest issue, and the uncs are announced on the Mint website for 7/11. The fact that the ASE is on the website for 8/7 tells me that's likely the plan, assuming they show up in Rosemont at all. The Flowing Hair would be GREAT, but I'm not getting my hopes up too much.
For sure. But it's just odd that the Mint would skip the largest show of the year, hosted by the most important numismatic organization in the country, while going to other shows hosted by others. And that's not meant to take anything away from FUN, who also hosts a great winter show that nowadays runs neck and neck with the WFOM.
I coulda swore I heard the MS Morgan and Peace were to be released at Summer FUN. I do not recall seeing that confirmed….
Having fun while switching things up and focusing on a next level PCGS slabbed 1950+ type set, while still looking for great examples for the 7070.
I can confirm it! 😀
The uncs are being released on 7/11, which is the first day of the show, and the Mint does appear on the list of Summer FUN dealers.
Still waiting on news for the Flowing Hair gold coin and silver medal.
1,794 of each!
Does the US Mint still bring the machine that dispenses current quarters for bills anymore and if so are the coins mixed from both mints or just one?
Is a “SP”66 finer than an MS66+?
What about this 1794 $1?

Excellent point.
Words matter.
Thanks for posting.
Yes, but they are literally the exact same coins that go to banks. Not a mix of subjects, but you do get both mints. In my observation, it is always just the latest release.
So, bottom line, it's cool if you are there. They are literally the least expensive souvenirs you can get, since they sell for zero premium over face value.
But they get banged up by the handling, and you can't choose which coins you get. So it's probably worth paying the premium and getting the 3 roll mint set from the Mint, where you can pick exactly which coins you get, plus get the S-mints, which probably cover the premium of all 3 rolls. JMHO.
The US Mint signed up today.
