Our Coins And Natural Disasters.......Not A Good Mix!

OAKSTAROAKSTAR Posts: 8,367 ✭✭✭✭✭

I read a recent post by @PillarDollarCollector about giving coins a good home.

It made me think about the tornadoes hitting the Midwest lately. I know about protecting the wife, house, kids, car, pets, etc... (Not necessarily that order 😉) Wondering what (if any) special precautions our members out there take (or anywhere natural disasters hit) during these catastrophic events to protect their coins?

Buy insurance. Then if something goes wrong, have fun spending the insurance settlement.

Awesome photo for us storm chasers. Not fun for those living through them. Bank vaults for the more valuable coins, gun safes for the home with less expensive coins. Th bank vault is MUCH less than insurance, safes will always be there, insurance takes a lot of time/documentation/claims.

You only live life once, enjoy it like it's your last day. It just MIGHT be!

Best to have better coins in a bank vault and insurance as well.

Let me ask you this. I don't know if it's ever happened but what if a bank with a walk-in vault or separate safe deposit boxes took a direct hit from an EF4 or 5, what do you think would happen? I don't know, I'm just asking.

In the Northeast, we don’t have many earthquakes, tornadoes, or fires. We mainly contend with flooding.

So a bank not near a flood zone works well.

    Large safe?

Llamas and alpacas are camels. They aren't like camels, or related. They are camels. When was anyone going to tell me this?! How long had Bill Nye been holding out on us?
