Was at an antique mall and saw this. Upon closer inspection there were too many red flags.
1. The price.
2. The nfc wouldn't scan.
3. There are 4 prongs holding the coin.
4. The surface of the coun was off under closer inspection.
5. The cert is for an 1878-S...which sometimes happens but not in this case I think.
6. Did I miss anything other than almost being out $125?

You missed one of the first things you want to look at...
It doesn't have PCGS on the bottom right corner of the slab.
Does it stick to a magnet?
Did you question the seller asking if it was authentic?
I didn't remove the price sticker to look for the logo. Should have. The antique mall clerk called the owner and I expressed my concerns to him.. They removed it for the owner to pick up later. I may return in a day or two to see if he put it back on the floor.

Actually @toyz4geo you don't need to remove the price sticker, you can tell the letters are missing from the slab from the reverse view of the slab. And if there was some sticker on the rev you could also run your fingernail over the price sticker to feel for the raised letters.

Everybody knows antique malls can be a rip off.
The dollar font is wrong in the upper right of the holder…and the coin shows as being in a private user’s set registry inventory as an 1878-S.
Has anyone had an NFC not work? I’ve never encountered it.
Having fun while switching things up and focusing on a next level PCGS slabbed 1950+ type set, while still looking for great examples for the 7070.
Maybe customs officials need to be educated on these counterfeits which are coming in in large numbers with the deadly fentanyl.
Seeing a fake slab and learning more how to identify it is always a good thing, personal education wise. The smarter we are with such things, the less likely we are to be taken.
There should be one red flag only and it is a big obvious one........the coin!!
If anyone can't see, in less than 5 seconds, that the coin is an obvious fake, then it's time to consider another hobby.

It doesnt have the "PCGS" on the front lower left part of the slab....
learning experiences can be quite hard sometimes..... learning from it is the best part! I got burnt on several hundred dollars in graded coins a few years ago, having them "hot shipped" I had faith in the buyer, and of course I got screwed...never will I HOT SHIP again.....
