You See a Possible Problem Coin In a Straight Grade Holder - What Do You Do?

There is a straight graded coin that appears to have an issue that you see, which should cause it to go details.
You have brought the issue up to the seller, who has allowed you to ask the major grading service who grade the coin about the coin. The major grading service did not respond.
Do you:
1) Let the coin ride and hope all potential buyers catch the problem.
2) Buy the coin yourself and fight it out with the grading service.

The only possible correct answer of the 2 options we were given is to ignore it. There are a lot of coins with problems that straight grade. Any buyer is left to argue with the TPGS if they wish. But they may not win. So, if you buy it you may be stuck with it.

What is the difference between 1 and 3? Either of those seems correct to me.
If you let the seller know and they agreed with you, they should take it up with PCGS themselves. If they didn’t, perhaps they have a different opinion or perhaps they don’t want the hassle. I imagine PCGS is probably not going to invalidate the cert unless the issue is egregious. If you buy the coin, PCGS might not agree with you and then you’re stuck. Hopefully buyers notice the issue and discount the coin appropriately.

Ignore it and carry on because there are now 10's of thousands. Even those with the craps stickers. RGDS!

I'm not sure it's your battle to fight. You can alert the seller as a public service if you want to, but you'll find that often times "no good deed goes unpunished".
If you like/want the coin purchase it at price you are willing to pay. If you don't like the coin keep walking. There is no reason to argue with the dealer and/or purchase the coin in order to argue with the TPG (you will most likely lose in both instances).

This is a very common issue for copper collectors in terms of color, once red coins can often turn red brown or brown and that can be a big price difference. I'm sure that your issue was a real issue but people really need to buy the coin rather than the holder.
Let it go. You might think it’s a problem coin but the seller and the TPG seem to disagree. If it’s a a big enough issue, the coin will sell for less than a nice example and that will be the market at work.
Give it less than a second’s thought……. Look for something else.

Once you get to a point where you know more than the entry-level graders, a lot of things will jump out at you.

Not my problem. Don’t waste my time on that crap. Between the buyer and seller. Take responsibility, Learn how to grade and look at coins or pay some tuition. The TPG grade is an opinion at a point in time - coins can go bad in the holder (too bad so sad), ymmv. Quick turnover a must (responsibility of the owner).
Why is this your problem if you don't own the coin? "Stay in your lane!"
I would think to myself that the coin won't likely sell if potential customers know what they are doing. It would be unfortunate if someone unknowing bought it.
With that said I think it's none of my business until I buy it.

All you need to do is take note that the TPG may be unreliable if looking at their coins in the future. Their non response would also put me off of coins graded by this particular company, guarantee or not.
Take a picture of it and add it to my TPG Hall of Shame.
As a collector I refuse to denigrate any coin for sale , sorry but I feel it is the collector's responsibility to decide for themselves what they do or do not find acceptable. I reject more than two thirds of all slabbed coins as either miss graded , unattractive or having obvious problems that should have kept them out of a slab in the first place. But I am not the slab police. Those are my opinions and I have no right to impose them on others. James
