1926

Today is my dad's 98th birthday. WWII vet (Navy, ETM2), huge BIG10 sports fan (Purdue, Ph.D EE), and the smartest person I know. When he turned 90 I made him this (all dated 1926):

It's framed and hanging on his wall in the family room. I told him when he turns 100 I'll add a gold coin. Post a 1926 dated coin if you wish.

    Happy Birthday to your Dad-

Jelly Roll Morton's Red Hot Peppers recorded Doctor Jazz for Victor in 1926- Great record- great sidemen including Kid Ory among others. Also features an early recorded Morton vocal which was unusual. I suspect this could be downloaded somewhere. It truly is a great record and captures the time quite well.

If you are seeking more commercial sound- Shake That Thing was also recorded in 1926 by Abe Lyman' band. And if you saw the Film - The Aviator - Shake That Thing was used in the scene from the Coconut Grove Night Club in Los Angeles. That was very well done.

We owe much to the veterans and civilian workforce that led us to Victory in World War II. May your father have a wonderful birthday and good health with fine memories. I respect his service and those of countless others.

Happy Birthday to your dad! There might be a gold 250th issued in 2026 that doesn't suck. The 1926 gold sesquicentennial $2.50 or a $2.50 Indian would be good choices, though.

A 1926 Indian $2.5 gold coin would be a good choice. I hope he makes it to 100 to help celebrate America's 250th birthday. B)

Agreed. Not too many folks can say they were around for the Sesquicentennial, Bicentennial and the semi-quincentennial. Happy Birthday to Dad.

My dad turned 98 a few days ago, too!
He was also in the navy.
His mom found out if he could pass the "Eddy" test, he would at least be in radio school for awhile.
[Partial background - his dad was a Marine in WW I and was badly wounded].
He was an electronics tech on the USS Bryant, a replacement for the previous guy who was killed in a kamikaze attack off of Okinawa.
The ship took awhile to be repaired, and the war ended in the meantime.

    I bought him a 1926 $2.5 some years ago.
He got bored with coins after completing his Indian Cent EF set, and gave me his coins.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes for me dad. He's very appreciative. When he turned 90 we wanted to throw him a party. He said 'no'. He wants us to wait until he's 100. Grandma lived to be 98 1/2 so he's convinced he'll make it.
