Definitely polished...shame too...has loads of details and what appears to be a die crack all the way around the obverse.
Agree... either polished or whizzed... looks like it used to be a nice piece.

@GaCoinGuy it's a 1878 vam 5 double rib hence the die crack all the way around the obverse
