1970 S Small date cent question

VetterVetter Posts: 930 ✭✭✭✭✭

As long as I can remember, I’ve had trouble being able to tell the difference between the large and small date 70 s Lincoln. Could someone with more knowledge and better eyes than me tell me what this one is. It’s in a US gov mint set so there is some reflection from the cello package. Thanks!

    Yours is a large date.

I usually go by the 7, if it is lower than the 9 & 0, it is a Large Date,
if it is even, then it is a Small Date.

Here is your coin after I drew a line across the tops, under it is the diag comparison photo that I use. From both the curl of the nine and the position of the 7 your coin looks like a lg date to me.

Small date also usually has a weak Liberty.

    You mean 9 & 0.

A surefire way to distinguish the difference between '70-S small and large date is to observe how far vertically the "/" on the "7" drops relative to the "0."

The Small Date can easily be identified by the weak LIBERTY. That's what I look for.
