What is your cleaning process with the glass dishes after the coins are finished soaking in the Acetone?

    I have an "acetone only" glass dish. When I'm done using it, acetone gets dumped in the driveway and dish rinsed with a hose outside. Don't want acetone in the PVC pipes....

    After flooding with clear water to dissolve the acetone, I wash all glassware with Alconox.

    Dump the acetone outside on concrete, let it evaporate, wipe down borosilicate Petri dish with a 70% isopropyl alcohol wipe to remove any residue.

    I have a bunch of these (images) that the wife had leftover from a bridal shower. I believe they are 6-8oz Mason jars. Absolutely perfect for the task. I just wipe them clean when done. Airtight. You could leave a coin in there for a month if wanted to.
    Probably buy them on Amazon for cheap.

    Same exact thing here...one for acetone, one for verdicare, one for xylenes.
    Find 'em at your local thriftstores for pennies :smiley:

    I use cast-off glass petri dishes from a lab, but the Mason jar idea looks pretty good for if/when the glass dishes break. As far as getting rid of the contaminated acetone... After removing the coin, I'll either soak up the residual in a paper towel and throw that away in regular trash or dump it out on concrete to flash-off (it's volatile) if I have a larger volume. After that, I'll rinse the glass plates in tap water and allow them to air dry. Alconox works great for lab equipment especially when you have deionized water for rinsing, but I haven't pursued this level of Nerdness... hope this helps.

    I re-use my glass containers (metal lids and I have some with glass lids as well) I simply use fresh acetone to wipe the interior after each use then rinse with water.

    On Amazon glass bottle with glass lids:

    Search title for these on Amazon:

    Or simply type Glass jars with metal lids. I make sure there is no plastic or paint inside the metal lids that the acetone fumes may affect.

    As for cleaning my empty glass acetone jar, stick it under the faucet, let the hot water run for 3 or 4 minutes. DONE and yes, I have PVC pipes.
