1st Annual 2003 coin price increase contest - FINAL RESULTS ARE IN!!!!!!!!!!!

This thread will list (and follow throughout the year) the final qualified entries into the 2003 coin price percentage increase contest. Feel free to cheer your selection on if it makes a move in the blue/greysheets. Feel free to chastise the picks of board members if their coin gets hit with a negative sign during the year. Above all, feel free to try to buy enough of your own picks to single handedly move the market in favor of your coin! As I stated on the original thread, I will be contributing a bottle of champagne or other refreshment of the winners choice, not to exceed $100, to the winner of this 'market guru' contest. If the winner makes it to the 2004 FUN show we may have to have a small informal presentation at a local lounge. My thanks also to fellow board member, Wingsrule, who graciously mailed the following to me to add to the winning prize list:
2001-S Lincoln Cent PCGS PR69DCAM
1961 Proof set, brilliant untoned coins, nice set
1963 Proof set, brilliant untoned coins, nice set
If during the course of the year, anyone else feels the charitable need to add to the winning prize list, please post your contributions here so that your generosity is recognized. Without further ado, here's the list:

If I made any listing errors, please let me know. Otherwise good luck to all and most of all HAVE FUN COLLECTING!!!
JUST TO SUMMARIZE...THESE WERE THE ORIGINAL CRITERIA FOR ELIGIBLE COINS
1. Specific coin must appear in the CDN Bluesheet or the CDN Weekly or Monthly Greysheet. I will use the values in the last 2002 weekly edition of the Bluesheet and weekly Greysheet, along with the December 2002 monthly greysheet as the starting values. If you submit a coin from the Monthly supplement to the bluesheet I will use the Dec. 2002 edition as the starting value. I will use the 'bid' values for all coins. If you submit a coin that appears in both the greysheet and bluesheet, the greysheet number will be used unless you specifically state at the time of submission that you want the bluesheet figures to be used.
2. Value of the coin (as determined above) must be between $100 and $2,500 on the beginning date of the competition, Jan. 1, 2003. I know this is arbitrary but it keeps out the low end and high end coins. I'd like the focus to be on coins available to most budgets but with good liquidity.
3. End of the measuring period will be the last weekely bluesheet/greysheet of 2003 or the Dec. 2003 Monthly greysheet/bluesheet which contains the coin you submitted.
4. Entry submission cutoff date is Dec. 31, 2002.
5. Winner will receive:
a.) much acclaim, glory and noteriety from his/her fellow forum members,
b.) bragging rights as coin investment guru of 2003,
c.) bottle of champagne ($100 or less please) along with personal congratulations from yours truly!

I am humbled by the honorable mention.
Eagle7,
I like you already
Mark
Not to move into your contest/prize, when you finalize the list, maybe we could have all of the contest participants choose the top 5 from the list provided from just the participants. We could rank the selections (i.e. 1st place chosen correctly, 10pts, 2nd place 7pts, 3rd place 5pts, 4th place 3pts and 5th place 1pt). Total cumulative points win (tiebreaker could be whichever person's coin ended up with the highest percentage). I could come up with a price for this variation to your contest.
Let me know your thoughts,
Chris
I love Ike dollars and all other dollar series !!!
I also love Major Circulation Strike Type Sets, clad Washingtons ('65 to '98) and key date coins !!!!!
If ignorance is bliss, shouldn't we have more happy people ??
These coins are hard to find now and have already increased quite a bit over the price, say, 6 months ago.
<< <i>Loki, there is no MS66 listing in Greysheet for 1950-D Jefferson Nickel, so your candidate is disqualified. >>
Gee thanks.
Why didn't you modify it to MS65 or something like you did for coinkat?
and it sets us apart from practitioners and consultants. Gregor

I`m with him.
True ..But ...1. Specific coin must appear in the CDN Bluesheet or the CDN Weekly or Monthly Greysheet. I will use the values in the last 2002 weekly edition of the Bluesheet and weekly Greysheet, along with the December 2002 monthly greysheet as the starting values

1. bgmanwith his $10 Gold Indian MS64 Type pick. Price increase from $860 to $1,100 for a 27.9% increase year to date.
2. jdimmick with the 1909-s vdb ms64red. Price increase from $1,750 to $2,200 for a 25.7% increase year to date.
3. MrKelso with the 1943 Walker Half PCGS ms67. Price increase from $625 to $725 for a 24% increase year to date.
On a technical note. One kind hearted board member had sent me a spread sheet with the arithmatic functions already filled in to help keep track of the results during the year. Unfortunately, I had a computer crash problem earlier this year and lost that file. I don't remember the board members name...but if you recognize yourself...PLEASE resend the file. I have Excel on my computer, but don't know how to set it up correctly. I would love to post the whole list with all the standings to date, but before I do all those hand calculations wanted to see if the earlier poster could ease my workload by resending the spreadsheet file. Thanks, and good luck to participants for the 2nd half of the year!

Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
The final issue of 2003 CDN Weekly arrived today, and I have plugged all final values into the spreadsheet. The original entries are at the top of the thread. We had 19 valid entries competing during the year. Of the 19 we had 12 which posted over 10% increases during the year. The top three picks all were up over 50% on the year....not bad...especially since one of them was mine! The winner, however, of the 1St Annual Coin Price Increase Contest, is none other than JDIMMICK with his classic pick of 1909-S VDB MS64RD Lincoln Cent. Congraulations to JDIMMICK. He wins a $100 bottle of Champagne (or other beverage of his choice) as well as the following coins kindly contributed by WINGSRULE when this contest was being organized last January.
1. 2001-S Lincoln Cent PCGS PR69DCAM
2. 1961 Proof Set - Brilliant untoned coins, nice set.
3. 1963 Proof Set - Brilliant untoned coins, nice set.
I am already organizing the 2nd Annual (2004) Coin Price Increase Contest. The rules and link for submitting your picks for that contest are here:

Nice contest, greghansen.
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
