Scarce 1824/2 Dime, Variety JR-2 - Grading Opinions Sought.

It is difficult to capture good pictures of this dime - my apologies in advance for the poor quality of these images.

The 1824/2 JR-2 is scarce, rarity 5+ with as few as 33 examples known, most of the in low grades, below VG and somewhat impaired. Best known is an EF40.

Only two varieties are known for this year, both sharing the same obverse.
According to PCGS this is the way to distinguish the common JR-1 from the JR-2.

" JR-1: Flat top 1 in the denomination, ERI of AMERICA separated

JR-2: Pointed top 1; ERI joined."

How would you grade this (very crusty!) example?
I am curious to see what you all think.

    VF details, environmental damage. From the pictures the surfaces look a little rough.

    A great rarity , such a shame it is in rough shape, but still a solid find/acquistion. I rather have yours than one with little to no detail. Consider yourself fortunate

    The coin looks in reality better in hand, In spite of the rough look which my pictures convey. Nevertheless, it is is quite "thickly" patinated, and this seems to hide some of the detail.

    PCGS thought it was worth of a straight grade. How can this be explained?

    Its a very tough variety. Yes its a little bit rough looking but there is not alot to choose from. Nice coin for the variety.
