Sweet Talker

I've been watching this piece for a while and was lucky enough when the funds finally arrived to be able to pick it up.

It's a halfpenny pattern of Queen Anne by Crocker, circa 1713 ,Peck 726. I saw another in auction not long ago. There is at least one nicer, as struck RD. No QA halfpennies were ever struck.

Nice with that much lustre. I've got Nicholson's 726 and most of the others. Sadly missed out on Nicholson's 722 and the silver 727 in St. James's a year later which both went to my serial nemesis, but one day.......

It is crazy that no halfpennies were struck during Anne's reign. The Royal Mint was rather lax when it came to supplying minor coinage until the early 19th century. The coins they did strike ended up circulating until they were worn smooth. In Scotland the minor Scots coinage ie the bodles and bawbees continued to soldier on in circulation until ca. 1760s or so.
