Coins from 1869 ~ official thread ~

Whenever I get a new coin, I am always fascinated by the year it was minted.
So my latest Indian head cent from 1869 inspired me to make this thread…

Let’s see what you got! B)

You can add currency or anything numismatic in addition to coins. Please just be from 1869

There was a boardmember, @mercurydimeguy, who posted here a few years ago, that had a fantastic set of 1869 everything. From cent to gold, he had them all.

This thread made me think of him also. I've been trying to get a hold of him for years now, but he has been inactive since the Pandemic. I hope he's alright.

I've been working on a tech startup that I recently sold (last year) and now working on a new venture. My love for coins will never fade but I need just a little bit more time  ... my new venture is building NBA Top Shot kind of a marketplace but for trading card games. I'm a geek and an avid player of Yu-Gi-Oh! and Flesh and Blood... check out the project here as we're starting to get a lot of traction https://tcgfandom.com ... now on to some 1869 eye candy 😎

PS. I can do this for days since I basically completed the "attainable" 1869 set of all US coins (including all Fractional Gold) and all World Coins and medals 🙏🏻

I’m curious as to why you chose the 1869 year to do this.
    Very impressive

Only a 62?! That thing is gorgeous! :o

Thanks! I have been debating on whether to resubmit for a PL designation.

Rarity Alert - the S-15 below is not in the FS listings, so it’s an”unofficial” variety. But, it’s really unique with the die lump on the upper obverse. This coin is seriously undergraded @ 64. I seldom say something like that as I’m not a professional grader, but it’s hard to find a mark obv or rev, so I guess it’s being hurt by the die lump? Your guess is as good as mine.

1869/69 S-3 varieties. I’m attempting to collect all 8 die pairs & am only missing the nearly impossible 3b example. I’ll only post the truviews here.

    3a
    3d
    3g
    3f

    3e & 3h not posted - no truviews & 3c is not yet designated

Collecting that is off the charts cool!

    The Hunt’s Over

This is by far the most elusive of the 1869/69 8 die pairs. Right now, it’s @ PCGS for attribution & TrueView. This is the last of the 8 & by far the hardest to find. It’s a PCGS 64RB & easy to spot by the die lump on the upper leg of the N in ONE on the reverse.

I should have said it’s the S-3, specifically the 3b die pair.
